Trend Alert: Lipstick!
Hot Right Now: The Look of Good Old-Fashioned Lipstick
by Antonette Alzate
Bold and bright. Barely there. Just bitten. There are hundreds of different ways to wear beauty’s biggest statement-maker. Although styles come and go, one thing that remains is the hot look of good old-fashioned lipstick. It can do wonders to your confidence, your mood, your persona and the way others perceive you. All this with just one swift swipe—ok, maybe a few more than that but yo u get the idea.
Trending this spring are reinventions of vivid reds that lean towards oranges or purples, an array of fuchsias as well as bright pops of coral. Before you start experimenting with the many shades of spring, here are just a few tips and tricks to achieving the perfect pout that demands a double take:
- Matching Lip Shade to Skin Tone – Vibrant pink stains work well with pale, cool complexions that have pink undertones. Cool berry shades complement skin with beige and yellow undertones. Warm pink hues and blue-based reds go well with medium and olive complexions while peach flatters brown and dark skin tones—although, dark skin tones can pull off just about anything, minus chalky colors.
- Rules for Application – Prep your pout with a lip primer like Pop Beauty Lip Magnet Primer. Using a lip liner (one that closely matches your lipstick), start from the center of your lips and work your way out using light, even strokes. You can also fill in your lips for more stay-put power. Next, apply lipstick with a lipstick brush for more precision. Blot your lips once with a tissue and finish off with lip gloss for a sexy sheen.
- Stay-Put Trick – Lock in color by dabbing foundation onto your lips first. You can also apply your lipstick in layers, alternating it with translucent powder to help prevent fading and feathering.
