Lessons with LyNeeka: Spring Bridal Makeup
Spring is here, which means love is in the air and wedding season is about to kick into full swing. And as any woman knows, the most crucial part of your wedding day—aside from your groom—is how you look. Our resident makeup guru LyNeeka has a step-by-step guide to enhancing your natural beauty so you can take everyone's breath away as you make your big debut down the aisle. She also reveals the tricks to creating a flawless look that lasts, even through all the tears and festivities.
Shape the eyebrows as shown in the Gorgeous Brows tutorial. Using a brow brush, sweep your eyebrows up and out for a clean look. Then use an angled brush and a soft brown shadow (shade varies based on brow color—veer towards a lighter shade) to fill in and shape your brows. On Vanessa, our very own bride-to-be, LyNeeka used Aubergine (deep plum) from jane iredale's Smoke Gets in your Eyes Eye Shadow Palette. Follow the shape of your brow with soft strokes.
Add eye shadow primer like Purely Pro Cosmetics Prime Time Lip and Eye Primer all over your lid to make shadow colors pop and last.
Take a blending brush and apply a soft brown hue in the crease. LyNeeka used Lorac Eye Shadow in Dark Brown. On the inner lid, use a champagne color like Sheer Gold (champagne with shimmer), and a deeper color like Aubergine (deep plum) toward the outer lid. Next, using a pencil brush and a darker shade like Sizzle (black with shimmer), create a smokey effect on the outer lid. Fill in the corner of your lid with a horizontal "V" shape. Use a blending brush to soften the intensity. All 3 of these shades can be found in the jane iredale pallete.
Define your eyes using an angled brush and dark brown eye shadow. Stay close to the lash line to maintain a soft, natural look. Use a black eyeliner pencil on the waterline and 2-3 coats of mascara to bring out your lashes.
Use a lip liner for color that lasts and finish off with a lip gloss for pucker perfection. LyNeeka used Stila Sparkle Luxe Gloss - Fairy Dust.
Apply primer and foundation after you've finished your eye makeup. That way if any eyeshadow has fallen under your eyes, you'll be able to clean it up without smearing your foundation. On Vanessa, she used Colorescience Skin Brightening Primer SPF 20 before applying BECCA Luminous Skin Color in Cashmere with a flat brush for a soft finish. Next, dust a little powder like Raw Natural Minerals Active Mineral Foundation over the liquid foundation to set it.
For a natural flush, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and a touch of bronzer near your eyes and down the bridge of your nose for a warm glow. Here, LyNeeka used ColorStick Blush - Santorini and The BIG Bronzer by CARGO.
Last but definitely not least, hold your makeup in place with a couple spritzes of Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray.
