DIY Blowout
LIZ'S TIP:
MAKE IT LAST A good blowout takes a lot of work—if you're like most people, this isn't something you're going to want to do every day! But if you invest in a good dry shampoo, you won't have to. My current favorite is Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Powder. Because of this stuff, I can make my blowouts last for a good 4-5 days … sometimes, even longer!
Nobody loves getting a professional blowout more than the girls at HairEnvy. But mastering the blowout in the comfort of home? We all agree it's the practical thing to do—and we've gotten pretty good at it! If you want to look like you just left the salon every day (and honestly, who doesn't?) these expert tips are not to be missed!
1.
After you shampoo and condition your hair, gently pat it dry. Use a wide-toothed comb—never a brush—to detangle. If you've got coarse or curly hair, a few spritzes of a detangling product couldn't hurt.
2.
Get your tools together. Along with your hair dryer, you'll need a natural-bristle round brush (the bigger the brush, the straighter the hair) and clips to create workable sections.
3.
Work an oil or serum through the ends of your hair. This will ensure the ultimate in smoothness and shine! Got thin or limp hair? Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil Dry Mist will do the trick without weighing your strands down.
4.
Use as many clips as you need to pin all but a small section of hair up and out of the way—and pin it so that you're drying the bottom portion of your hair first. Dry your hair one 2-inch section at a time, and start by using your hands, pulling the hair taut, pointing the nozzle of the dryer downward on the roots. Next, wrap the hair around the brush, moving it downward with one hand and following it with the dryer in the other. (IMPORTANT: Make sure you dry the section completely—even the tiniest bit of remnant moisture will lead to frizz.) Finish the section with a blast of cool air for added luster.
5.
Repeat step 4 on each remaining 2-inch section of hair until it's all dry. Don't cut corners!
6.
Finish with a shine mist, like Alterna Bamboo Shine Luminous Shine Mist.
