But at last night’s Emmy Awards, Julie Bowen and Amy Poehler stole the show with something else—gorgeously styled tresses! With Modern Family racking up most of the accolades for comedy, it’s no surprise that Julie Bowen, who played the role of a manic, obsessive compulsive mother in the hit series,  also got our vote for the Best Beachy Waves award. Her stunning hairstyle—voluminous and textured, but nothing too refined— fits her bright citrus-hued Monique Lhuillier gown perfectly. “We didn’t want to go terribly smooth or too clean because the dress is so sophisticated. We wanted balance–we wanted the hair to be youthful and playful,” says hairstylist Jill Crosby.

GET THE LOOK

• To achieve the perfect “not-too-fixed” look, Jill started by finger-drying Julie’s hair with the new T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i dryer.  She lifted the hair at the roots and sprayed a volumizing product to build volume and add texture.
• Then, she used the SinglePass Whirl Styling Wand to add more texture and create a natural-looking beachy wave. “The Whirl is great because it’s tapered, which helps for a natural look,” Jill said.  Expert Tip: After curling, let the hair cool in your hand and then rough it up with your fingers to break the curls apart.
• Once the desired “messed up” look was achieved, she back-combed the hair on the crown for extra volume before pulling the top half up into a chic chignon.
• She finished the look by blowing the hair back with the dryer.

In Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler may be an overzealous government official who always finds herself in sticky situations, but last night, during the Emmys, she looks as elegant and exquisite as any golden girl of the 1950s Hollywood. In her low-cut metallic gown—and hair that evokes “Rita Hayworth meets Grace Kelly”—she wowed the crowd even without uttering a punch line. "This was exactly what she wanted to complement the dress she was wearing,” hairstylist David Keough said. “Together with the gorgeous makeup by Robert Moulton, she was delighted [with her look] and was looking forward to walking the red carpet!”

GET THE LOOK

• David began by filling Amy’s hair with Rene Furterer styling mousse. Then, he used the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i dryer with the T3 Anti-Gravity Barrel Brush to give her hair a traditional round-brush blowout.
• After parting her hair on the side, he used the T3 SinglePass Twirl to curl the ends of her hair, pinning the curls as they came off the iron while keeping the top of her hair smooth and flat.
• Once cooled, he removed the pins and brushed out the curls with the T3 Vent Brush to create a smooth wave.
