Rustic Romance At Ann Yee | Fall 2013« back to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013
MAC Cosmetics Senior Artist Fatima Thomas leveraged shimmery shadows in shades of copper, brown and tan to define the models eyes, albeit no eyeliner. "The look centers on a diffused application of color without any hard lines or contouring," she said. "It's all about very clean skin, with a focus on the eyes and lip." As for mascara, she didn't use any—but that's not to say she skipped defining the lashes altogether. "I just used a little liner on a fan brush and applied it to the roots of the lashes. The definition is very subtle, but it's there." Who knew Appalachia could channel so much chic? Inspired by Black Mountain College, a beatnik liberal arts school founded in 1930, Ann Yee's Fall 2013 collection showcased a unique style Aveda Global Styling Director Allen Ruiz described as "woodsy and idiosyncratic in print, with a dim romantic undercurrent." To make the concept pop, Ruiz created a look of "controlled chaos"—a full-bodied coif at once wild and restrained. "It's more Grace Coddington than Veronica Lake," he explained.
