Effortless Allure at Jenny Packham Fall 2013
The Makeup: Elegant and Bare

What's the best approach to complementing a stunning collection inspired by the lavish intellectual salons of 17th century Paris, where society's elite gathered to discuss art? In a word, simplicity. Talia Shobrook for Laura Mercier-the main makeup maven backstage-opted for minimal maquillage to balance out Packham's incredibly opulent designs, zeroing in on elegant nude hues set against youthfully bright skin. "I wanted the skin to look expensive, but simply expensive," Shobrook offered. "I didn't want anything major going on." Tinted moisturizer (Shobrook opted for Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20) layered over a brightening primer (Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance, in this instance) provided the perfect canvas for Shobrook's unconventional yet unbelievably gorgeous vision, which included lip balm to tame the models' brows without making them look too made-up. As for the rest of the face? "We contoured using highlighter, rather than anything dark," she said. "And then we used lipstick as blush to achieve freshness and translucency. When you look at skin as it was depicted in the 17th century, it looked very pure, and that's exactly what I wanted today."

The Hair: Understated Glamour

In keeping with the minimalist beauty the makeup team strove for, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created a simple, loose ponytail for the show. Before making a center part and sectioning the hair in two parts (top and bottom), she blew the hair dry using a Mason Pearson brush to get a perfectly straight finish. She then gently teased the bottom section from ear to ear, loosely pulling the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck and allowing pieces of it to fall out around the face. Secured with an elastic and finished with a ribbon, the look was pure elegance and grace.

The Nails: Glittery Gradient

Who else but Essie to come up with a concept worthy of all this regal beauty? Backstage, the manicurists kept it simple, prepping the models' nails with First Base Base Coat before sweeping on Luxeffects Topcoat Collection Nail Color - Set in Stones across the tips. They finished the look with Good to Go The Fastest Drying Topcoat for serious shine. Can you say wedding manicure inspiration?
