Microdermabrasion Becomes a Household Word

Wrinkles, rough skin, fine lines, crows feet... the signs of aging aren't always welcomed ones. For centuries, maybe even millennia, women and sometimes men have tried everything under the sun to keep their skin from looking and feeling aged. People who feel young want to look young. And vice versa - when you look younger you tend to feel younger.

Remember the good ol' days when all it took to get ready to leave the house was throwing on a pair of jeans and t-shirt, putting your hair into a ponytail, splashing some water on your face, a toothbrush in the mouth and Viola! ready to go?

After husbands, kids, jobs, dishes, laundry … ad nauseam… it takes much more to look presentable before leaving the house in the mornings. What most women want to know is, "Can I get my young skin back?" The answer, thankfully, is not a resounding, "No!"; instead it's a, "Yes, it's possible, especially if you take proper care of your skin and try a few skin rejuvenating treatments."

Hmmm, have I sparked your interest? Come with me, let's talk about microdermabrasion and younger skin.

Microdermabrasion is a skin treatment that works to remove the top layers of old and dead skin cells. The result is shinier, healthier, younger and smoother skin that can erase or reduce the wrinkles and fine lines of aging as well as diminish the appearance of acne scarring and other common facial blemishes.

There are several ways to experience a successful microdermabrasion treatment. Microdermabrasion can be performed in the office of a specialist such as a surgeon or esthetician, or it can be done in the convenience and privacy of your own home.

In a specialist's office, the treatments can average $150 per session and multiple sessions are usually required to obtain and retain the smooth and youthful appearance. In most states, insurance does not cover the procedure - although it doesn't hurt to try if you have a comprehensive plan.

When microdermabrasion is performed in a professional setting, the time frame for the treatment is relatively quick when compared to other skin care rejuvenation treatments. In fact, microdermabrasion has been called the "lunch hour plastic surgery" by some. Recovery time is also quite short. In-office treatment consists of a stream of aluminum oxide crystals sprayed across the area of treatment in a fine "mist" of crystals. A separate pump mechanism removes the exfoliated dead skin cells and crystals from the region. It's easy, fast and effective.

If, however, you are like the millions of women who either can't carve out an extra hour on a routine basis for a professionally administered microdermabrasion treatment or simply don't relish the idea of handing over $150 for something they can do in their own home, then you've come to the right place. Below you will find three products that offer professional office quality results for a fraction of the price and the convenience you can only find in your own home.

Any product that is effective for skin care must do two things for the skin: moisturize and exfoliate. Let's repeat - the products you choose for your skin care should always, at a minimum, moisturize and exfoliate.

The following do-it-yourself microdermabrasion products do both, and can be done anytime and anywhere.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion in a Jar contains honey for moisturizing and magnesium oxide for exfoliating. Additionally, this affordable product contains grapefruit seed extract, jojoba seed oil, oat kernel extract, and chamomile.

  • Grapefruit seed extract is a natural antiseptic that helps to fight and get rid of bacteria (a major component of acne outbreaks) as well as moisturize cracked and chaffed skin.

  • Jojoba seed oil is antibacterial, like grapefruit seed extract, as well as an excellent moisturizer for the skin. It is also considered an excellent anti-aging substance.

  • Oat kernel extract is another way to soften and smooth dry skin, resulting in healthy youthful looking skin.

  • Chamomile is an herb that, when used in skin care products, works as an anti-inflammatory and soothing ingredient, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and unstressed.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion in a Jar is affordable, effective and convenient and will leave your skin radiant, smooth and healthy looking.

A second product that meets the qualifications of a suitable at-home microdermabrasion product is DermaNew Facial Rejuvenation Microdermabrasion System. What sets this cream apart from Dr. Brandt's is the fact that DermaNew products can be used even on the most sensitive of skin. DermaNew Facial Rejuvenation Microdermabrasion System exfoliates with aluminum crystals while hydrating and moisturizing with ingredients such as grape seed extract, green tea leaf extract, wheat germ extract and oil and wheat bran extract.

The results seen with DermaNew Facial Rejuvenation Microdermabrasion Crème include smoother skin, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, reduced acne scars and facial blemishes and more youthful, radiant skin. Not bad for an at-home treatment that you can do while brushing your teeth, cooking up some supper or tucking the kids in at night!

Finally, the Neova Microdermabrasion Scrub is an excellent product to have on hand if you are considering a few in-office treatments for microdermabrasion but need a "refresher" in between those visits. This product also uses aluminum oxide crystals to exfoliate dead skin cells away from the surface revealing healthy, new skin cells below. The peppermint oil found in Neova Microdermabrasion Scrub is refreshing, leaving the skin with a slight tingly, cool feeling, and is also one of the herbal world's top antiseptics.

Neova Microdermabrasion Scrub can be used with any skin type and takes less than two minutes to complete a scrub. Do this several times a week to prolong the time needed between office visits.

If you have always considered skin rejuvenation something you couldn't afford or didn't have the time for, you're wrong. With outstanding new products on the market such as those mentioned above, youthful skin is right around the corner.
