Anti-aging | | | Hi, I am 48 yrs. old. I am concerned about fine lines, age spots (not sure if it's melasma or pimple scaring), large pores (blackheads) on my nose and chin area and occasional breakouts. My skin used to oily around the "T" zone. Recently I have noticed flaking in that area as well.
In the past I have used Mary Kay, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Proactiv and recently Night Skin. I have spent a small fortune on my face throughout the years and have NEVER found anything that I like. Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks, Charlene |

Scars?? | | | I had a lip augmentation 2 years ago...the incisions were made along the border of the upper and lower lip. So, I obviously have scars. My problem is that my scars are very painful not to mention very hard, stiff and firm. Also, my lips obviously move a lot which pulls on the scar and does not help matters. I was wondering if there is any solutions to make my scars feel soft and non-painful. I would think scar revision would make it worse since lips are a very sensitive region of the body...and can result in more dysesthesias (uncomfortable sensations) than comparable surgery in other ares.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Perioral Dermatitis | | | Hi Meagan,
I'm a 22 year old female and have been suffering on and off with perioral dermatitis for the past 3 years. I suffered with it for over a year, first only on my chin, before it was diagnosed. I had tried acne treatments such as Stievamycin (which I had already been on for years and didn't work for anything, including my very mild acne), Clyndamycin, BP (which I later became severely allergic to), salicylic acid, etc. At the point when I was diagnosed, it had spread and was quite severe. From there, I calmed it down to a more manageable state using pure tea tree oil and was then prescribed tetracycline to give it a final kick to get rid of it (or so I thought). Almost exactly a year later, it returned. I tried the same treatment... tea tree oil and tetracycline, but this time, the tetracycline didn't work and caused me a lot of suffering as well, as it didn't agree with my stomach. My doctor referred me to a dermatologist and while I was waiting to get in, I kept it controlled with tea tree oil (which my doctor approved of). As long as I kept up the tea tree oil 3x daily, it was alright and actually completely cleared up a couple of times, but would return as soon as I tried to ween off of the tea tree oil. It would only really flare up if I got lazy about applying it or would feed it by trying to apply makeup or heavy moisturizer to the area. Recently, I got a little carried away in frustration and impatience, applied way too much of the tea tree oil for about a week, and it was quite red, irritated and dry. Then when I finally saw the dermatologist, she believed I was having contact dermatitis from the tea tree oil (when my skin was really just irritated from way too much of it over the past week and had never been like that before). She prescribed me Protopic 0.1% 2x daily for 3 weeks, and then a follow-up, and she plans on treating it (as well as my acne) at that point with Stievamycin (which I have used extensively and does not work). I applied the Protopic 3 times but it only fed the perioral dermatitis and it got a lot worse really fast. I stopped using it and switched back to my tea tree oil, and that cleared it up again right away (and the dryness and redness have already greatly improved since I've been using a lot less of it again). I have a follow up in 2 and a half weeks and I know she's going to be disappointed that I didn't keep the Protopic up, but I've lived with this condition for so long that I know what doesn't work for me, and Protopic was already making it worse. Perioral dermatitis needs to breathe, and this stuff was like Vaseline and feeding it. Also, the FDA warnings about it really freaked me out. What I really want is something to aid in treatment of the perioral dermatitis (to finally get rid of it for good) alongside the tea tree oil, as I can get it clear but only as long as I keep using the tea tree oil. I just need something to give it that final kick in the butt once it's clear, so that it doesn't return again right away. Do you have any suggestions? I've heard some people have success by switching toothpastes. Could this work, or is there anything else? I've already swore to myself that I'd completely stop applying any moisturizer or makeup to the area, which I hope will help as well. If you have any suggestions at all, it'd be greatly appreciated! I'm desperate! I should also add that my skin is extremely sensitive and I have a lot of allergies including BP, fragrance and chemical sunscreens. I also have very mild acne with some problematic pores and the occasional small hormonal breakout, which has improved somewhat with the use of birth control pills. Thank you soooo much in advance, for absolutely anything you can possibly tell me! |

What Would You Recommend? | | | I am 19 years old and I have had a history of oily skin since I've been taking birth control pills for about 5 years now. I have a huge problem with oily skin in my T-Zone & I have very noticeable frustrating enlarged pores. However, I do not face break-outs of any time just oily skin and enlarged pores. What products would you recommend to decrease this problem? |

Hormonal Acne Since Having A Baby. | | | I have gotten pimples on my forehead since I started menstruating after having my daughter. The pimples come monthly along with my cycle. I am still nursing my daughter, so I am sure it is hormonal. No creams have been working and I am guessing it is because the creams dry out the acne, and these just seem to be red bumps on my forehead, not whiteheads or pimples that could be 'popped'. I have no idea what else to do, but I am embarrassed to have breakouts that last 2 weeks each month. |

White Spots | | | Hi,
I am 22 years old and about 6 months ago noticed that i get a white spot on my face that only appears when its cold outside, or exposed to cold air or water. It almost looks like a mosquito bite when it appears but when I'm normal temp, you can't see anything on my face. Any idea of what this might be or how to get rid of it or prevent it from appearing? Thank you!

Teen Acne | | | My daughter has had acne at 9 years old, and she still has it at age 17. We've tried special soaps, proactive, and even prescriptions from doctors. After about two months of using each item we find that none of these have worked. Her father and I have both had bad acne, and we both have gotten rid of it. My daughter also has highly sensitive skin. Could this be a very bad case of acne, or something else? |

Would I Be A Good Canidate For Microdermabrasion? | | | Hello Doctor, i am a 22 year old male of African descent, and i had a little minor pigmentation above my nose(dark spot) bridge, a friend of mine recommend that i use this creme called fair and white, she advised i use some on my face, but i just wanted that spot gone. which contained some hydroquinone I'm not sure what percentage, i would use the creme twice a day for 3 weeks, then stopped using it, after three days my skin appeared to be blotchy and some dark spots appeared on my cheeks, i learned of what hydroquinone was and what can it do when not used safely, and dark skin people can get darker using this. I was wondering if hydroquinone can leave little wholes in your face , if the use of hydroquinone is used excessively, and was their anything i can do to get rid of these little wholes, and little fine bumps? instead of using cremes. i was wondering if the microdermabrasion, or any lasers, ipl, can bring back my complexion in these areas, my problem is minor. |

Eye Area Question | | | Hi Meagan, I'm 51 year old women and purchased the Glytone Step 1 to repair sun damage and erase wrinkles around my eyes and upper lip, I am using it all over my face and neck area. Should I use this product around my eyes? After 2 days of application it makes the skin around my eyes wrinklier? I want to continue using if this will result in a more youthful skin. What do you suggest? |

Acne | | | I've always had some mild acne, but the last month or so it has gotten really bad all of a sudden. I went to my regular physician and she gave me tetracycline. It has been a month and I have seen no improvement what so ever. I think it has even gotten worse. She said the next step it taking minocycline. What is the difference between the two? And how long does it take them to work? |

Proactiv Allergic Reaction | | | I had an allergic reaction to proactiv skin care 3 step solution. I was using it for about 4-5 days and then I suddenly broke out in tiny red and itchy bumps all over my face and neck. The bumps are still there and now my face is extremely dry and swollen. This is the 4th day since I noticed the breakout. I have been using dial soap and a moisturizer that I had been using prior to proactiv. I have also been taking Benadryl. Can you tell me how long this will last and what things I can do to speed up my recovery? Thanks so much. |

Accutane | | | I have been taking Accutane for 23 weeks, with a possible 4-6 week more to go. I would say so far, I've had fairly good results in my skin clearing...the only imperfections I have now are from the dry skin that flakes off. The side effects are sometimes barely tolerable. I'm concerned with the total dosage amount the Dr has planned for me. I currently take 40-80mgs per day. I usually alternate days b/c I have had bad side effects. I weigh 150 and the Dr would like my total dosage to be 12,000 mg. From everything I've read online this seem extremely high. Is it?
Thanks, |
