Breaking out? Try a skin care product infused with lavender! That’s right, the aromatherapy ingredient can be used for more than reaching ultimate relaxation mode. And thanks to its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, it can actually be used to treat acne.
Skin Care Benefits of Lavender
According to board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Debra Jaliman, lavender contains a slew of skin care benefits, including antioxidants, which can detox the skin and reduce inflammation. “Lavender also has antimicrobial properties, which are suitable for healing skin,” she adds. Using an over-the-counter skin care product with antimicrobial properties can work to reduce blemish-causing bacteria on the skin’s surface and result in clearer, more healthy-looking skin.
In addition to treating (and healing!) acne, lavender can also be used to soothe and ultimately heal a sunburn help control dry skin-related ailments---i.e. eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis---and can even take the itch away from a bug bite (fun fact: you can combine lavender essential oil with a natural carrier oil and use as a natural bug spray, too---unlike humans, bugs hate the smell of lavender).
With so many skin care benefits, it should come as no surprise that there are tons of different skin care products infused with lavender. We share some of our must-haves, ahead.
