Tell us about Karuna's beginnings.
Since I was born and raised in Taiwan until the age of ten. It was important for me to incorporate my eastern culture and western influence into the brand. The word KARUNA was found in a Dalai Lama book I have. It means compassion in Hinduism. Having compassion in everything you do in life is the foundation of humanity.
The goal was to share my favorite beauty findings with everyone! It was very important to me to deliver quality products because I wanted to build customer loyalty. When there is customer loyalty, you can grow everywhere you desire to be.
What is your background? What advantages does this give the brand?
My background is in fashion and beauty. I was a makeup artist for Mario Tricocci Day Spa and Salon in Chicago. And for the last ten years I was a fashion buyer. Having been a buyer and a makeup artist, I understand great makeup starts with the skin, along with my buying expertise; I was trained to bring the best product to consumers. Karuna’s facial mask is the best of the best!
What innovations, ideals, or achievements set apart Karuna from other brands in the skin care market?
Our unique application sets us apart from all the skin care lines out there. Karuna is a supplement to your skin care routine. It’s not to be confused with other skincare lines out there with different face washes, or moisturizers.
What patented technologies or special ingredients can be found in Karuna products?
We use rare and unique ingredients from all over the world, mostly in Asia. Shiso leaf, a Japanese herb is a great anti-inflammatory agent helps to fight acne. Natto, Japanese soybean, is an excellent resource for moisturizing dry skin.
How has Karuna progressed over the years?
The brand has been received very well. We started off with boutiques and now we are getting in the Spa industry and with some major retailers.
Any recently launched products?
The most recent is the Karma Kit. It’s a variety pack with our 4 best selling masks. The Renewal Eye Mask will launch next year.
What is Karuna’s signature product?
Our signature products are our 6 facial masks. This is our breakthrough product in the industry, unique and like no others.
Who is Karuna’s target customer?
Our target customer ages varies from 22-60. She’s a self-aware professional who is concerned about looking and feeling her best by maintaining her beauty inside and out. She prefers on-trend, convenient products that coordinate with her busy lifestyle and the importance she places on pampering herself.
What is the main inspiration behind the Karuna product line?
The main inspiration is to bring a treat and toss concept into skin care. From my personal experience, the thought of applying facial mask after a busy day seems like a hassle. The good intention was always there, but the process is more than what I have energy for. Karuna’s one step, no-rinse face mask is so convenient to use.
