DermStore: How was Dermacyte started?

Dermacyte: Dermacyte skin care emulsion was created by a team of scientists who have been working for over 15 years on the development of oxygen-based treatments for life-threatening medical conditions.
Helped by the miracle of modern technology and after extensive research, their experiments resulted in the discovery of oxycyte technology, a unique and highly effective carrier that delivers oxygen to damaged tissues. Oxycyte technology allows the transfer of large amounts of dissolved natural oxygen without the use of chemical activators like hydrogen peroxide, which is known to dry and bleach skin.
Given that oxygen is vital for the healthy appearance of skin and is known to have a beneficial effect on wound healing, Oxycyte technology inspired the creation of a new oxygen-enriched skincare product.
Excited by the discovery, the scientist named the new emulsion DERMACYTE Oxygen Concentrate, which became the first product launched by the brand.
The brand’s main goal is to effectively delivery oxygen to the skin without the use of hydrogen peroxide, which is why all DERMACYTE products use the company’s unique and patented oxycyte technology.

DermStore: Tell us about Dermacyte's founder.

Dermacyte: The co-founder of Oxygen Biotherapeutics, which is the parent company of Dermacyte, was Leland Clark. He was often referred to as the “Edison of Medicine”. Leland Clark has developed more than 13 important medical inventions such as the heart-lung machine. During his research in the 1940s for creating artificial kidneys, he discovered that blood could be oxygenated and started focusing his researched in oxygen therapies, which later led to the creation of a device that measures oxygen content in the blood, water and other liquids. His extensive research and knowledge in oxygen therapies eventually lead to the creation of oxycyte which is a third generation oxygen carrier designed to enhance oxygen delivery to damaged tissues.
This gives Dermacyte a very unique advantage since no other company can use such an advanced and effective oxygen carrier backed by years of science in their product. Unlike other oxygen brands, Dermacyte does not use hydrogen peroxide in their products to oxygenate the skin since hydrogen peroxide has been associated with drying, bleaching, and damaging the skin.

Dermacyte: Dermacyte was recently launched in August 2010. The brand currently consists of two products, which are:

a) Dermacyte Oxygen Concentrate – a multi-beneficial oxygen spot treatment that brings the look of youth to your skin. Target the appearance of wrinkles, lines, blemishes, and dull skin with this all-purpose hypoallergenic serum.

b) Dermacyte Oxygenating Eye Complex: An oxygen-powered eye complex that fights the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness… all while hydrating your skin.
The brand will be expanding and launching new products in 2011.

DermStore: What's your signature product?

Dermacyte: The signature product is the Dermacyte Oxygen Concentrate because 86% of its formula contains our oxygen carrying technology. The Concentrate will always be the product with the highest concentration of patented oxygen carrier. Because of its high concentration, it is being positioned as a spot treatment. You need very little to see results.
