Avene – Hydrotherapy Skin CareThe history of Avene begins more then 250 years ago in southwest France. A horse belonging to the Marquis de Recozels was turned loose on Black Mountain in southwest France because it had a skin irritation. After drinking from and being submerged in the Avene thermal spring water, the horse became cured of its skin irritation. When physicians heard of this, they too encouraged locals to bath in the Avene thermal spring water – the success of using the thermal spring soon spread.
The spring was named spring of Saint Odile by the Marquis de Recozels and in 1743 he established Avene’s first baths. Years later the baths were passed on and a hydrotherapy center was built. By the mid 1800’s the hydrotherapy center, with use of the Avene thermal spring water, was treating more then 500 patients a year. Avene’s thermal spring water was so successful it was soon exported to America to treat burn victims. In 1874, the spring was officially declared a dermatological hydrotherapy center.
In 1975, Pierre Fabre, a pharmacist, and his pharmaceutical enterprise obtained the spring and surrounding land and began performing medical studies and analysis of the thermal spring water. Pharmacists determined the Avene thermal spring water was beneficial because it contained:
precious minerals
trace elements
softening silica
and was bacteriologically pure
All of these properties helped to treat skin conditions like atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Over the years, Pierre’s pharmaceutical enterprise has established over 150 clinical studies to support the Avene thermal spring water and its calming and softening advantages.
The Avene Dermatological Hydrotherapy Center deemed the Avene thermal spring water such a victory that it soon developed Eau Thermale Avene, a complete range of dermo-cosmetic products, formulated specifically for sensitive skin. Eau Thermale Avene treats common skin concerns such as aging, acne dehydration and dryness. The collection of Eau Thermale Avene is hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic and has been clinically tested and backed.
