Beautifully tousled beach waves and sun streaked locks are synonymous with the upcoming warmer months. Unfortunately, all the hours outside and in chemical filled pools can wreak havoc on hair. Dusty Simington, creator of Kronos and former North American Master Stylist of the Year, has all the tips and tricks needed to keep your mane healthy this summer.

Tip 1: Prepping for the Pool

“Wet your hair with tap water before you go in the pool,” Dusty instructs. “Hair is made up of three layers which create a sponge that absorbs everything! Before you go in a chlorine- filled pool, make sure to soak your hair in tap water. This will fill up the hair follicles, leaving no room for chlorine and therefore helping you avoid damaged cuticles.”

Tip 2: Bracing for the Beach

“Before going to the beach, make sure to treat your hair accordingly,” says Dusty. “Spray wet hair with Liquid Theory, a leave-in conditioner by Kronos, and then put a light coating of Phyx, Kronos’s repair masque. Let it dry naturally or pull it back in a ponytail. It creates great texture—you’ll haveyou’ll have beautiful protection from the sun all day long.”

Tip 3: Prepare and Repair

“There are a few products that can really help prep hair and prevent damage or help repair hair once the damage is done,” Dusty explains. “Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, such as the Kronos Hydresse line, throughout the summer. This will help minimize chlorine and sun damage. Also, at least twice a month during the summer, use Phyx to repair your hair from this seasonal damage. Additionally, Liquid Theory should be used after every single visit to the pool or beach, or anytime you’ve been in the sun, really. It helps protect from sun damage and helps maintain color.”
