Description: Afirm 3x contains a generous amount of retinol and is designed to vigorously treat photodamaged skin. It is appropriate for maximal retinol therapy and is particularly helpful for those with more tolerant skin. Afirm's MICROSPONGE® system protects delicate retinol molecules and allows them to be released continuously for impressive results with minimized irritation.
Recommended Use: Apply a small amount of Afirm to the face, neck and under the eyes at bedtime.

I went straight to the 3x instead of starting at the 1x and working my way up. The 3x did burn and redden my skin for about a week, but it really wasn't that bad.
