Free Radical Protection

Free radicals are natural ions that exist both in the environment and in our bodies, the results of thousands of chemical reactions that occur every second. Free radicals are essentially unstable atoms that seek to regain balance by corrupting the nearest atom. When our bodies are bombarded by free radicals, it leads to cellular decay, which in turn leads to premature aging and is even thought to be linked to diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and cancer.

The free radical process is often called oxidation, and elements that protect against oxidation are known as antioxidants. Antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and green tea work by stabilizing free radicals before they attack our bodies. Vitamins C and E work well together as they recharge one another. While there is no stopping the body's natural free radical process, protecting the skin from environmental factors such as smoke, smog and pollution can help keep the body healthier longer.
