Obagi Nu-Derm System products were created in 1988 by Dr. Zein E. Obagi and other leading experts in prescription skin care. This group of experts began formulating and selling these products and nine years later the name Obagi Nu-Derm System was changed to Obagi Medical Products Inc. Obagi headquarters are located in Long Beach, California and is still directed by Dr. Obagi who is the Chief Medical Officer and is a member of the Board of Directors. Obagi is one of few companies involved in the making of prescription skin care systems that is a privately held pharmaceutical company.
