Large Pores
Pores, also known as sebaceous glands, are a fact of life, and are in fact essential to skin health. Pores exist on every part of the body, except for the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. Hair grows out of pores, and pores secret oil (sebum). Sebum protects and waterproofs skin and hair, keeping them from becoming dry, brittle or cracked. Sebum also inhibits the growth of microorganisms on skin.
Yet some people view pores as an eyesore. Enlarged pores are more common on oily skin, which is mostly hereditary. Pores can also become more pronounced when there is an abnormal build up of sebum or skin cells around the pore. They can also become clogged with blackheads, which draws undue attention to the individual pores.
While it is impossible to actually constrict the size of the pore, eliminating these types of buildup will help to perceptively diminish the pore. Different treatments for pore minimizing include masks that draw out excess oils; cleansers that remove buildup on the skin; and foundations that cover up the pores and diminish discrepancies in complexion color. Although your pores will always be part of your skin, keeping them clean and healthy will diminish their appearance and give your skin a youthful radiance.
