Tinea Versicolor
Tinea Versicolor is a type of skin discoloration caused by a yeast found on all skin. Under certain conditions, such as excess oiliness or humidity, the yeast thrives, forming small colonies that discolor the skin. On paler skin, darker splotches appear. The yeast has no pigment, so if you have darker skin or tan, it appears lighter. Because of the discoloration, it may be confused with hyperpigmentation. It is common to contract Tinea Versicolor from using a tanning bed, even one that has been sanitized.
Tinea Versicolor can be treated with topical or oral medication. The creams below work best on milder conditions with smaller and fewer colonies. If you have a more serious condition, consult your dermatologist.
