oily skin |
| Question |
| I have chronic oily skin.I have tried most everything from what is available in the local drug store to Clinique, LaRoche Posay, Kinerase, all without success. My skin usually starts to feel oily within several minutes of cleansing and stays oily throughout the day. The oiliness is over my entire face, not restricted to the T-zone. I suffer mild break-outs, usually hormone related, mid-30s in age. No trouble with wrinkles or fine lines at this point in time. Any advice for a skin care regimen would be greatly appreciated. cosmedicine and MD Formualtions were recently recommended and have not yet been tried. I am currently using Aubrey Organics without much success. Thank you for your help. |

| Oily skin can be difficult as it is usually mistreated and misunderstood. Most patients will attempt to combat the oily skin issues by using harsh and over-drying products. This type of treatment does not work, at least not for a long period of time, because the skin tries to compensate for dryness by actually producing more oil. Thus, the key to treating oily skin is to use a well-balanced regimen, which also includes hydrating products. Keep in mind too, excessively oily skin can be caused by deeper issues such as hormonal imbalances which can cause the sebaceous glands to be overly active, thus producing excess oil. Consult with your personal physician for further information. To address the oily skin issues at home I recommend you consider a regimen such as the following. Cleanse daily with Pevonia Botanica Clarigel Exfoliating Cleanser followed with Pevonia Botanica Oily Skin Lotion. I would recommend spot treating breakouts you experience directly with CosMedix Clarity Serum. During the day I would highly suggest using a mattifying product to control oil during the day like Peter Thomas Roth Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel or DDF Matte Finish Photo-Age Protection SPF 30. I would also suggest using blotting papers as needed like Jane Iredale Facial Blotting Paper Compact. At night is when you should balance the skin by using hydrating products. Consider a hydrating serum such as SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel followed with a moisturizer like Dermalogica Active Moist. Lastly, I would recommend using a treatment mask each week including a clay mask to draw excess oil from the skin like Pevonia Botanica Mattifying Oily Skin Mask.
