small scar |
| Question |
| A couple months ago, I got a pimple above my lip on the left hand side, I barely even noticed it but it was there for a while. I was shaving one day and it knicked it by accident, so I figured, I might as well get all the bacteria out, because I could feel there was something still under my skin. Barely anything came out but I could tell there was more inside my skin, so I decided to leave it alone. It ended up scabbing and seemed to be healing fine just like anything else. I've had plenty of scrapes, cuts, etc on my face which heal slowly but when they heal they leave no trace of a scar or anything. But this one was different. After the scab came off, it stayed red, and I figured it would heal over time, but it's been a month and it's still red and obviously a small flat scar, as less/no hair is growing in that area and you can tell the skin is slightly different than the surrounding skin texture wise. It's small, probably less than a centimeter, but the fact that it's not showing any signs of fading/healing really bothers me. The darker pink/red spot really shows in contrast to my light complexion. I thought for sure the redness would clear after a month. Is there anything I can do to fade/heal this small scar? I ordered Mederma a few days ago, but I've seen really mixed reviews so I don't know what to expect. I've been thinking about going to a dermatologist, but I don't know what they could possibly do or offer to help with a scar. I wouldn't care if it couldn't be COMPLETELY eliminated, I just want it to be faded to a point where it's not very noticeable. Are there any products you recommend? Would you recommend seeing a dermatologist? Is mederma a good choice for a scar like this? (sorry for the complexity of my post, I wanted to make sure I was detailed to get the best possible opinion) |

| The Mederma should be helpful, however I also suggest you try Sonya Dakar Omega 3 Repair Complex - Scarring. In addition, sunscreen should always be worn on this area, as sun exposure can worsen the scarring. Any sunscreen will do, if you do not own sunscreen I suggest Solbar Zinc SPF 38. A consultation with a dermatologist could definitely be beneficial as there are many procedures that could be helpful in your case. Please contact me if you have further questions. Best skin care wishes.
