seborreic dermatitis scalp

Question

I have the built up dry scalp problem. I wash my hair and the next evening i have dry patches. I've already been through the "too much conditioner" and those types of theories. When I was a child I had "cradle cap." It seems I have the adult version of that. Anyway, I was wondering if research on this problem is taking place? Are there any other alternatives besides medical shampoos? Does this go away or do you have it forever? It is a very embarrassing situation and a hassle to deal with. I know its not a disease, but if there are any other methods possible to get rid of this I would like to know. Thanks for your time and patience.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a condition that does not currently have an exact cause. We do not that there are certain things that trigger then onset, such as hormonal changes however research is still working on it. In general if science has not found a cause or cure we will continue to further research it. So you can be confident that there will be more information, treatments, etc. in the future. You do not always have seborrheic dermatitis, many times it will appear in childhood and then again in our later years or teens but then disappear again. Besides shampoos there are scalp pomades, topical corticosteroid and in severe cases Isotretinoin, or Accutane. I hope this information helps. Please contact me if you have further questions.
