Petroleum Jelly and AHA's

Hello, I'm currently using a face lotion with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid, and it works great. However, I think I want to start applying a thin layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on top of the AHA lotion to "seal in the moisture". My questions are, 1) Will the petroleum have any effect on the AHA's exfoliating action? And 2) Even if the AHA's still worked with a layer of petroleum jelly on top, wouldn't the dead skin cells then be "trapped" or "sealed in" under the vaseline, therefore requiring further manual exfoliation? Petroleum jelly is often used after peels as a protective barrier, thus it should not have any effect on the AHA product you are using. As mentioned, petroleum jelly is often used as a barrier. Thus, it's likely this product may stop your skin from naturally sloughing off dead skin cells. Instead I would avoid using the petroleum jelly after use of the peel or use an alternate moisturizer.
