Petroleum Jelly and AHA's

Question
Hello, I'm currently using a face lotion with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid, and it works great. However, I think I want to start applying a thin layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on top of the AHA lotion to "seal in the moisture". My questions are, 1) Will the petroleum have any effect on the AHA's exfoliating action? And 2) Even if the AHA's still worked with a layer of petroleum jelly on top, wouldn't the dead skin cells then be "trapped" or "sealed in" under the vaseline, therefore requiring further manual exfoliation? Thanks so much for your time, Zita
