Hair loss

Hi. I am a 26 year old female and recently I've been experiencing more hair loss and thinning with my hair. It seems that whenever I manipulate my hair in any way I have several strands coming out. I notice some strands of hair have white looking bulbs on the end as well. My hair dresser has noticed more hair shedding as well. I've been to my primary care physician and my thyroid was checked which was normal. I'm not overly stressed. I did stop taking birth control at the end of January and am trying to get pregnant. I've been having irregular to absent periods, which makes me wonder if the hair loss is from a hormonal imbalance. Do you have any suggestions on treating this? or any other ideas of possible causes? I appreciate your help.
Answer
Unfortunately such issues are better addressed by a physician in person so that they may have full medical history, visuals, etc. The stopping of your birth control is a possible culprit behind the hair loss, as well as the unusual periods/absent periods you mentioned. My suggestion would be to have a blood draw so that your physician can look for a hormonal imbalance. Best skin care wishes.
