Adult Acne |
| | I'm 30 years old and never had a problem with my face breaking out. In the last 6 months to a year it has started breaking out mainly around my chin area and now the lower sides of my cheeks. I've always had flawless and clear skin until recently. I've tried proactive and it helped for a little while then it was back to breaking out. I've actually scarred my face up pretty good picking at the pimples before they actually become a pimple because I'm not use to having them there. HELP! |

| | Hi, I'm 21 years old and have recently (within the past 5 months) had a terrible outbreak of acne. When I was in my teens, I used topical Benzaclin once at night and it kept my face fairly clear. However, my acne has become much worse as of late. I began taking Minocycline, 100mg twice daily 5 weeks ago, but haven't noticed much progress. (I know it may take some people 2 months to see results). I also began using benzaclin EVERY time after washing my face, so that I would always have a layer of it on, even under my makeup.
I went to the dermatologist today, told her about my lack of progress, and she prescribed Duricef, 500mg twice daily, and also suggested slowly easing my way into retin A by putting it on for 2 minutes (OVER my makeup) at night and then washing it off and going to bed.
So my questions are:
Will switching antibiotic regimens slow the process of improvement? If it takes 6 weeks for results from Duricef, does that mean 6 weeks from today, or is there a chance that since I've been on minocycline for 5 weeks that I will begin to notice improvement fairly soon?
--My other question is, will going to bed with nothing on my face (after placing the Retin A on my skin for 2 minutes then washing it off to prevent acne flare up/irritation) make my skin worse? Lately I've been loading on the benzaclin (even though I've been told by many this doesn't necessarily do anything) out of pure fear that more ugly zits will be waiting for me in the morning.
Thank you for your help, and I really would appreciate any insight onto how I may go about improving my condition, as it has caused me great emotional trauma to the point where I am now on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications. |

| | I'm 44 and have been using prescibed topicals and minocyline for my adult acne. All these seem to create is dry, red skin, and painful pustules. Help! I can't quit picking my face. Would Accutane be an viable option for me? |

I can't afford to see a dermatologist, and have recently started having horrible adult acne. it is on both sides of my face along the jaw line. there is a combo of cystic acne and whiteheads. what treatment would you recommend. is there anything I can ask my general doctor for? thanks. |

| | I think I may be getting a bit of adult acne. or maybe it's something else ? It looks like milia and just some little bumps on my skin. I take very good care of my skin and do go for lunch time facials and toning facials. I'm in my mid 50's and other than that , my skin does look like someone in their late 30's. | | When I was younger I had beautiful skin that only had to be washed with a gentle cleanser, but ever since I started using a three step process I developed adult acne. Now, no matter what I do it just gets worse and worse. Ingredients like Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide only dry my skin out and then make my face over produce oil. The only semi-effective treatment I've ever had is a sulfur mask, but I can only use that about once a week otherwise it dries out my skin. I just need a product that works for SENSITIVE acne prone skin. No company seems to have this combination. Any thoughts? |

| | I suffer from Adult Acne. It is not constantly severe, but at times does get pretty bad. I also have started noticing my pores are getting clogged and nothing seems to be helping! I have been using Proactive since college (I am not 32) and I think it has stopped working. It used to keep my skin completely clear. Also, my face seems extremely dry even though I use a good moisturizer in the morning and evening (noncomodegenic). I would love a product that addresses anti-aging as well as acne, but have no idea where to start. Help! |

| | Hi, I am 39 years old and have adult acne. I did not have it as a teen. I have also tried all of the over the counter products such as Murad,MD, Proactive,and products out of the drug store. I have taken antibiotics to try to treat it, but to no avail. I am taking Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and zoloft for mild depression. Could these medications be affecting my skin. I am also getting signs of aging and need help. Any suggestions? |

| | i am 44 and have been getting nasty acne for the last two months. i live in a very humid tropical climate and travel to a very dry climate often. i have been getting large painful under the skin acne. often it never comes to any head where i can do anything with it.....seems my skin eventually(and SLOWLY) reabsorbs the acne. some of them i can coax into a head and gently release...these heal faster and feel better immediately after. i am baffled as to why i am getting acne like a teen. my skin is definitely ageing and beginning to thin so i am reluctant to use very harsh things on it but i know that the weaker stuff will not work. i am part Italian and have relatively oily skin but very hearty and i can glycolic the heck out of it and my skin likes it. i have used retin a in the past but i think my skin is too old for that treatment. what do i do? this is painful, never mind ugly, acne. it seems every other day i have a new lump that i have to deal with. ouch!

p.s. these can be anywhere on my face...usually around my chin but certainly NOT exclusively. i have had them on my cheeks, forehead, nose (very ouch), and temple area. also i just had some extensive dental work done....removed old amalgam metal fillings and had them replaced with composite. can there be any relationship here? i still have some more to go and maybe i have activated the toxins in the old amalgam and it is causing me to break out? or is this nonsense? |

| | I am 31 years old and have never stopped dealing with acne. I always have blackheads and whiteheads and I have the red painful pimples around my period. I have tried everything I can think of; proactive, beautiful skin, every OTC product there is, retin a, antibiotics. The only thing that ever helped was the antibiotics, but they had side effects, and once I went off them, the acne came back. I'm tired of wasting my money on everything. Can you recommend something I haven't tried? |

| | I currently get little cystic acne only in the area of my chin. I took acutane before and didn't like the side effects but its the only thing that worked. I don't want to take it again. I currently use tazorac which helps them not stick around as long. What I am interested in is a good skin care line that will help. I have extremely oily skin. Also a good home peel that I can do myself. |

| | Hi, i am 22 years old I have had little white bumps on my forhead for 2 years now,and just recently got quite bad acne on my chin. I have am using retinol A but it makes my skin peel. I have tryed proactiv, zenmed, and am currently taking the derma cleanse capsules i think that made my skin worse..I want to aviod accutane at the moment because i have other large health issues. I am a 28 years old Asian. I had been having acne every since I am a teenager. The worst part is when or before having my menstrual, I will get this (usually one) big acne that is yellowish in color. I tend not to mess around with it, but a lot of times, I accidently hurt it while washing my face. I have tried a lot of products but nothing helps.
Do you have any recommendations for acnes and blemishes? I haven't been to a dermatologist yet. Thank you. |
