Scalp/ Forehead | | | Hello,
I have three questions, If you can only answer one, I understand. First, I'm 29 year old male *male pattern balding* For the past few months I've been experiencing extreme dry/itchy/redness scalp. Through out the years I've dealt with dandruff, etc. This was really dry/dead skin. on front/top. Plus, I have some redness marks that almost look like birthmarks, but they aren't. I mean they are in the same spots. It's almost like there is some type of fungus or something on scalp. I've used everything you can imagine but the redness is still there.. Not the extreme dryness, but can get flaky.
just curious?
Second, On my forehead I have noticed in the past year, a V shaped dent formed below my old hairline. IF I look in the mirror sometimes I can follow two lines down my head to the V shape, then sometimes I think it's my receding hairline *Peach fuzz* rather then lines, however the V dent is real. I can push my scalp back and it disappears? I don't think it's just old age wrinkles because I'm only 29. Is this something that is common, can it be fixed short of surgery/botox, etc?
Last, is in regards to facial hair. Some places I get these very thick facial hairs, unlike other hairs when you pluck them it hurts and they are very fine root, these thick hairs are very long. Meaning, whatever is exposed, when I pull it out it's usually 6 times as long below the skin. Also, it falls out of face with no pain. It appears to be wax coated, and when I rub the hair in my fingers it shows that it's 5-10 hairs all grown together in the Wax type coating.. through the one follicle on face?
Any way to stop this? It's not all the time, all over my face.. but every once in a while, I can pluck 5 or so hairs. Most are to the left and right of my chin.
Again, I know I asked a lot. I'd love to learn more, and understand your busy schedule.
Thanks,
Ricky |

Facial | | | Hi,
I am 32 years old and my face its not good I mean it shouldn’t be like this at this age. I will start with my eyes: no matter how much sleep I get how relaxed I am, the area under the eyes has dark circles and people ask me all the time if I am getting enough sleep. Anyways the other problem is wrinkles oh god I have wrinkles around my eyes more then a 50 old woman, and yes on my forehead and my face. The other problem is the skin of my face I am getting this brown spots around my under eye area and my face I don’t know how to call these things but I am tired of putting Foundation on my face all the time to cover these brown spots. OK my question is what should I do what should I use for these problems so I can be happy with my face again and no need to put so much make up on to cover it. |

Glycolic Acid | | | Hi Megan,
You know I have been using the Peter Thomas Roth BHA/AHA acne clearing gel and PTR spot treatment to clear my adult acne. For the past 2 weeks, I have been consistently using it every morning. In addition, I have also been consistently using the PTR Un-Wrinkle Peel pads every night to treat my mild acne as well as rough skin that has developed (which I wonder why). My question is, at my age of 24, is using too many products with glycolic acid going to kill my skin in the long run? If so, what do you recommend I use to stop breaking out and get rid of roughness? I have been using these PTR products for about 2 months now and still see flare ups here and there and rough skin is just now calming down a bit. In addition, I have been using a retinol treatment from Philosophy every night and a moisturizer also from Philosophy every morning, that contains 2% salicylic acid. I am also having a hard time getting rid of the acne scarring (which I believe in time will fade). But for now, my main skin concern is skin roughness and stopping acne. I am hispanic, dark hair, drak eyes, fair/medium skin (tanned now due to Summer). Also, I should add that this problem started about this January - before this I never had any skin problems (always clear!) Please help.
Thank you! |

The Skin Of Face In General | | | Dear sir/madam
I am a 25 year old woman from Iran. I have a greasy skin. I'm not generally satisfied with the condition of my skin. I have permanent acne on my cheeks and also some tiny microscopic ones on my nose. Also there are a few brown spots under my eye. In addition since I have the family background, my mom has a very wrinkled and spotty skin (57 year old woman), I am really worried about how I will look like in 10 years!! she is currently taking a tablet called "Imedeen". I wonder if I should also start taking them or so! please let me know what exactly I should start doing to omit my current problem and to prevent more damages? which one of famous lotions, creams, soaps, and other beauty products are best for my skin?
I will appreciate your help before hand.
sincerely yours |

Isotrenton Vs Not. | | | Okay, I want to be a doctor, but I'm not one yet, (first yr of college coming soon). I get confused by all these warnings about Accutane. I know all medicines have side-effects and stuff, but Accutane is popular and causes birth defects and suicidal thoughts so it gets alot of attention when i search for it online. Even the I Pledge thing freaks me out. I'm a guy and I guess I'm not worried about the depression thing, maybe I should be, but I have no history so that's not a concern for me. I'm worried about this stuff like intestine problems? Like muscle and bone problems? Like problems wearing contacts during and after treatment... "AFTER", like a month after, or like forever??? I'm sure you can see my concern. I've got halfway wandering eyes (I can keep them straight but I'm conscious of it and if I got laser surgery and had one eye for close and one for far, it would drive me insane) so I'm not going to get laser surgery and I don't like glasses, so this is big. I also work out, and I guess I take back down on working out and use glasses for a half a year, but I don't want to get screwed up for my whole life just because I wanted to get rid of my pimples. I'm borderline even needing accutane I guess. I currently use (supposedly very good) Lytic Gel Cleanser by epionce (I don't use a towel, I rub on gently to face that I splashed with water so it foams, then I leave it on for about 5 minutes then put my face under the sink to wash it off). Then I let my face dry and apply Clindamycin Phosphate topical solution, USP Pledget 1%. I do this about 5/7 days a week. 2/7 days I use lytic gel and .05% (tazarotene) Tazorac. I would double up, but my face dries out too much if I overuse tazorac. It would be possible to also use Clindamycin on my tazorac days however. I also use minocycline 50MG everyday, 2 in the morning and 1 at night (very consistent). I work 35-40 hours at a pizza place that is about 90-105 degrees at my station near the oven and there is grease in the air, I can tell because it accumulates on the walls and when I come home, my face is gross, not just sweat, it's greasy. I immediately use lytic gel. I will be cutting down to about 15 hours a week when I go to school in less than a month. Maybe this will help my acne? Will it? And could I increse the dosage or medication itself that I mentioned without using accutane? Would accutane be more of a risk than what I'm using now, or what I would be using, should there be something more powerful I could be using now without using accutane? I know you can't predict how I will react to a medication, but I need help. I need advice. Also, I'm 18, both of my parents had acne, and my fathers was almost gone at my age and my mothers was. I know that guys have acne longer than women, what is the average age when it cools down? I'm 145 lbs and 5' 8" and am not growing right now. Oh yeah, and just to reemphasize, I really don't want to mess up my muscles and bones, especially if I'm suppose to grow some more. I'd really like to grow more if possible, heh. I don't want to screw myself by taking accutane, but I also don't want to be scared of some stuff that's not really an issue, or is unlikely enough that I should go for it. Do these people have problems because they don't get blood tests, or don't report symptoms? Like if I am aware of my body and get my blood tests every month, does that make me have much better chances to be okay? My doctor implied that they haven't had even minor problems with accutane. This is all very confusing, please help me. If my acne is going to town down in the next couple years anyway, I really don't know if accutane is the answer. To make my situation more clear, I have minor redness but a lot of small bumps and maybe 2 medium problems areas when I'm on my current medication, I look alright, but it's not like I don't have a noticeable acne problem. I have acne, just not super bad. The reason I'm considering accutane is because, It seems like this is as good as it's going to get, and my doctor told me that my acne will likely go completely away like cured if I take accutane for 5 months... It sounds like a sweet deal... I hope you can help me. I'm not really in much of a hurry, I just need to know in maybe the next couple of weeks. Thanks. |

Need Help With Skincare | | | Meagan,
I am looking for a new cleanser/product line to help with my acne. It's been an ongoing problem since age 10. I'm now 31. My main problem is large, painful cystic acne accompanied by minor small pimples, which appears mostly Spring through Fall and only about a week before through the week after my monthly cycle. I have small breakouts in between, but that's nothing serious. I've tried many products in the past with no real results to speak of. Allergies to Benzoyl Peroxide and Sulfur have added to my dilema of finding products that work.
I started using the Jason Naturals Red line of cleansers and toner back in January. It seemed to help, but considering my main problem wasn't coming until spring, there was no real way for me tell if it would be my skincare answer until then. Last month, I began experiencing my breakouts again. I tried a sample of Murad's Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel that my sister gave me. It appears to be helping significantly when using in addition to my current routine. Normally, I would stick it out and see if I could get by with my usual routine accompanied by the Murad Exfoliating Acne treatment gel, but I am really in a hurry to clear my skin and don't want to wait around. My cousin is getting married in September and I don't want to appear in all her wedding photos with large sores all over my face.
Since the sample of Murad's acne treatment gel seems to work well for me, I was thinking something in Murad's line. I found a few products I was thinking of trying, but realized their mask contained Sulfur, which is one of the two ingredients I am allergic to. Is there anything else you think could work, either in the Murad line or another line? Any cleansers or products in another line you think may work better? I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Rosacea | | | I've just been diagnosed with Rosacea with light flushing on my cheeks, some visible capillaries under nose and upper cheeks under my eyes, as well as (under stress and before my period), some deep cyst like bumps with puss and knots (very few though). I have normally combo skin with now occurring fine lines around my eyes as well as deeper lines around my mouth and forehead. I seem to have pretty sensitive skin and really want to see my "perfect" skin back that I've had since childhood. I started using Proactiv, but is dried my so much that I've stopped my membership and got a refund. The redness and bumps have cleared up though. I've been told by my dermatologist to start with Cetaphil and/or Glytone am and pm followed by Metrolotion, with Neutogena sunscreen in the am. But I really want to see rejuvenation quickly because I'm 41 and look like I'm in my late 20's because of healthy diet and exercise. My skin will be the tale tale of my age if I don't do something fast. Also, I've started to get some rash like raised bumps on my chest/back and torso that need attention.(the ones on my upper chest and back are really pimples with puss and some knots, although just occasionally). I would like rejuvenation of my body skin as well as my face and neck. Can you suggest a routine for my facial care as well as for my body that is cost effective since I'm planning on continuing this from now on? Thanks so much, you really are a godsend for those of us who have skincare issues. Have a great day. Hope |

Tap Water | | | I was just looking over some of the q's people have asked you and came across one that mentioned tap water being full of impurities and cause your skin more problems. Is this true...and what does one due...I think we all use tap water? Our water comes from a spring and we have afilteration system on it is that good enough?
Also wondering what line of product to use if I'm interested in switching from my proactiv products. I have oily skin and break out. It seems like I've been breaking out more since I went off my birth control about 8 weeks ago. My MD said that might happen and that she felt it would level out. If it doesn't what would you recommend? It's been 8 weeks and she thought about 3 months. I'm very uncomfortable breaking out at 41. I'm even considering going off dairy. I heard that it has hormones in it that may add to your break outs. If I went organic, how organic does one need to go. I also hope not to spend to much money on products for my skin, but I'm getting very frustrated with the whole acne thing at my age. Do you have any good products that are inexpensive?
Sincerely,
Carrie |

Blocked Pores, Dehydrated/dry And Sensitive | | | Hi! I have been looking at buying the Jan Marini skincare products. I was wondering what you would suggest that I use. I am 27 years old, fair skin, sensitive skin(weather etc can make my face red and sensitive), clogged pores all over my skin that makes my skin feel rough-it´s like whiteheads are always half way out, blackheads on chin and nose only, very tight and dehydrated skin all day. I would like my face to be clear of all the "bumps" and not always feel tight. It makes my skin tone very uneven and pinkish. Since I am 27 I would if possible like to prevent wrinkles. Is this even possible to treat together? If there are any other products than Jan Marini you would suggest then of course that is great too. I have tried everything for 6 years now and would be so grateful for your reply! Thanks Sara |

Switching Cleansers | | | Megan,
I'm wondering if I should switch my cleansers yet. I'm getting very confused,I purchased the Biomedic purifying cleanser, conditioning solution and the Beyond hydration. The girls said it would address my break outs or acne. I've been using it a month now and I'm told that this the purging could go for sometime. But, another girl at the Dermstore is telling me that the products I'm are not enough to treat my acne. She gave me a sample of the Skinmedica and told me to try it for a week. After 3 days I'm getting even more breaking out. I called and she told me that it's more meant for wrinkles and aging. I specifically told her I wanted to treat the acne. Now I'm not sure what to believe. Am I using the proper products for my problem? Or should I switch to a stronger method of Biomedic? I know they have a acne cleanser, my 30 day trail is up in 2 days I don't want to be stuck with something that doesn't work for me. Could you please help me figure out what will work. We also thought that maybe my skin was oiler due to over stripping with Proactiv, doesn't seem to have made a difference. Wouldn't my PH levels be leveled out by now if this was the problem? Please help me if you can. Thanks for your help yet, again. |

Congested Skin | | | I am 29 years old and am having a hard time finding skin care products that work for my skin. I have normal/combo skin but tends to be very acne-prone, I seem to always have some sort of blemish, whitehead, etc. I'm currently using Pevonia for problematic skin but it's not doing much for my skin. I'd be interested in what you might recommend - my main concerns are to get rid of little bumps on my cheek and chin and to help prevent them from coming back as well as helping to even out my skin tone (it tends to look blotchy from past acne scars and some hyperpigmentation). Something that may be anti-aging would be great as well - and if you can recommend a product to help lighten up some brown spots I got after having my 2nd child. I've looked into SkinCeuticals and Mama Lotion - but would prefer a professional opinion before purchasing anything. Also - do you feel using masks help? Sometimes when I use them I tend to break out more. Thanks for your help.

Regimen Products | | | Hello Meagan. I have read many of the answers by you and I really respect your opinion. I decided to ask my own question finally. I'm a 20 year old male. I have acne prone facial skin. My acne would be classified as mild to moderate, mostly inflammatory acne. I get the big red bumps that eventually break out into whiteheads. I believe they are also known as Pustules. I have researched my condition for years, trying new products and getting nowhere. Most sources say Benzoyl Peroxide is best for my situation. But I refuse to use it. I have in the past and it pulled nothing but havoc. It dried my skin out terribly, made it peel, crack and sometimes bleed. I cant bring myself to believe that something like that is healthy for my skin, plus I know many people who have aging problems due to it. I have found however, Retinol, to work decently. So I decided to try the Avene Diacneal product. I am going to apply this at night. I'm assuming I will need a daily treatment to as my skin normally doesn't work with once a day treatments. Therefore I was looking into trying the Gly Derm products. Specifically the Gentle Cleanser and the Lotion 5% for normal skin. The cleanser day + night, the lotion day and then the diacneal at night. And of course a Sun Protectant in there also. Do you feel this is a good regimen? How about for my inflammatory acne problems, do you feel it would be adequate to help me with my condition? I have read many great reviews on Glycolic acid and how it has helped many with their acne problems. I know a few friends who have used it and had reduction in their inflammatory acne. So I was hoping this would be a good routine in my acne battle. But I have also read, from Paula Begoun, Author of a few books and creator of Paulas Choice products, that Glycolic acid shouldn't be used on acne prone skin, but mainly for Sun damaged skin. However I do not believe this to be true. Any information you can give would be great. Thank you greatly for you help and time. I hope to hear from you soon and be on my way to clearer skin. |

Which Skincare To Use | | | I am a young 68 yr. old. I have combination skin.(very oily in younger days.) I clog and breakout in t-zone. Get cyst type bumps on chin. Products seem to be too rich or not rich enough.
Just stopped using Simone France products. Too rich. I have used a lot
of brands; nothing works. I have used
retin-a. It irritates. Gycolics & alpha
hydroxys on a regular clog my pores and
break me out. I am interested in the Decleor line. Also notice you recommend
Cosmedex a lot. I also have a few lines
and a few brown spots on face. I lived
in Florida for 36 yrs. I have fine textured skin that would look great if
I can get it to stay clear. Any suggestions on what to use?
Thanks,
Carol |

My Skin Is All Over The Place! | | | Hi Meagan,
I am 32 and have had large pores and oily skin for as long as I can remember. I've also been prone to breakouts for years, but wouldn't say I have acne. Recently, a beautician put a small camera on my skin and told me it was combination (very oily in T-zone, dry on cheeks and chin.)
Lately, I've been trying some various products, and think my skin is reacting badly (i.e. breaking out more.) In addition, I have a lot of red in my skin tone. I don't think it's rosacea, but my face looks pink and uneven if I don't wear makeup.
I've heard good things about La Roche-Posay products, but am confused as to which would work best for me, since my skin type seems to fall into several different categories. Could you recommend a regimen that would help give me soft, even, clear skin? I'm so tired of trying so many new things!
Thank you! |

Fake Tan Soaked Into A Skin Wound | | | Hi, 2days ago I decided to exfoliate my skin before applying the fake tan 'Fake Bake' the following day. I decided to use the 2nd finest grade of sandpaper that was lying around in my house grade 1200. I was gentle and it didn't hurt immediately my skin felt so smooth. I had heard that removing skin a little deeper helped get rid of hyperpigmentation brown marks left by spots and pimples over the years(I have really pale white type skin, but which tans reasonably easy). Anyway about an hour later my skin became quite red and nippy, I put on plenty of moisturiser. The next day the redness was disappearing in the evening so I decided to apply my Fake Bake fake tan lotion. As this fake tan it tinted brown when you put it on I noticed that it was sinking into patches which the skin must have been removed too deep. I tried to wash it out but it must have absorbed it quicker or deeper. Panicking I frantically started rubbing it with a wet cloth to get it out. The following day(today)my face looks like it has the appearance of carpet burns, there is no bleeding but it is quite raw, the skin has started to feel dry with a thin papery hardness on the surface. I am worried that areas where I can see that the Fake Tan is trapped in there will stay there permanently and new skin will grow over it leaving discolourment. Is this the case, or will the skin grow outwards shedding it eventually, (this fake tan is meant to last up to 10 days) will the body's defences push out a foreign body such as this? How often does skin shed? The Fake Bake is actually a newer version called Fake Bake Gold which contains antioxidants and a blend of vitamins, will this help or will this have been soaked further into the skin within the fake tan? Is there anything I can do to clean it or any cream i can put on it while it is still a relatively new wound to stop scarring/permanent discolouration. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |
