| | Oily / shiny skin? Can glycolic or lactic acid cause your skin to shine more? I'm using a glycolic acid , citric acid, lactic acid cleanser. After I use it my skin appears oily/ shiny. I tried using an astringent with alcohol and aloe vera and it still shines after that. I tried Cosmedix acne prone line and it also happened, I think those products also had lactic acid. |

| | I am 28yrs old. I just started accutane 3 days ago. One of my questions is if I can use a glycolic serum 15% daily while I am on accutane? I like the way the serum helps keep my skin smooth and I don't think is that strong. Also, is it okay to use an at-home microdermabrasion cream once a week while I am on accutane. My other question is that for the past month I have been doing a detox program where I take some herbal pills, fiber shake, and a tea to clean my internal system. Its a 3 month program. Is it okay to continue this program while on accutane? One last question, can you recommend a product that I could use while on accutane that can help old acne scars? thanks for information. |

Are Products With Acid Bad For Skin? |
| | I have combination skin that occasionally gets pimples and has a lot of blackheads. I had been using Murad products, but when I got a facial, the esthetician told me that products containing acid were (1) making my skin thinner, which would make me age faster; (2) making my skin oilier because my skin was producing more oil to combat the acid; and (3) leading to enlarged pores. Is there any truth to her claims, or was she just trying to sell me products? |

| | Been using the Biomedic purifying cleanser for over a month with the conditioning solution and Beyond Hydration. Still having break outs. How does one know if the sal. acid will work for them? I've also heard to use Vit.A if you break out, is this a vit. you can pick up at the drug store or do you need a prescription? I bought a Vit A & D dietary supplement softgel is this the same thing? Vit A. 5000 I.U. Vit D 400 I.U. I also take a multi vit daily. Don't want to over due a good thing. Would appreciate your advice. |

Acid PH Of Hands And Fingers |
| | My daughter plays harp, the top strings are nylon, most in middle are natural gut then wires. The guts wear out and fray fast in the areas of being touched. Her harp teacher says that a lot of use they wear faster but some people have more acid in their skin or sweat and that eats away at the gut strings faster than the synthetic nylons or the tarnish resistant wires. If this is true, what is the best way to deal with it.. using all synthetic strings defeats the purpose of the sound of the instrument which comes from the gut strings. Thanks |

Anti-aging...acids Or Retinol? |

I am 30 and have a some aging concerns. I am rather fair and have a few sun spots; one is dark, while the rest are light and I think I am the only one who can spot them at this stage of the game. In very good light, however, I can see more, far lighter spots on my cheekbones. I worry about what I am "in" for. I have never been a sun worshipper, but I have very sensitive skin that is annoyed by nearly every sunscreen I have tried, and so I have often gone without in my everyday errands.
I also like to stay away from too many chemicals on my skin. In the past, if I took a 'break' from products I wake up with much better-looking skin in terms of tone and firmness. The more products I use the worse it tends to look overall.
So, this is my current treatment: I use Skinceuticals vitamin C eye gel all over my face in the AM and follow with a powder sunblock...sometimes I use a regular moisturizer from the health food store if I am dry. At night, I use Skinceuticals eye gel with alpha hydroxy acids all over my face. I recall that both of my Skinceuticals treatments are 5%, and I have been OK with them. I have been using them for a month now.
My concern is the sunspots and fine lines under my eyes. I'd like to stop them in their tracks. Should I continue this regimine or get more aggressive? I was thinking of the Skinceuticals intense line defense or the Affirm 2X retinol. I am not sure if they will annoy my skin, however. I tried the Skinceuticals phyto lightener and had to return it because it irritated my face.
Please advise. Thanks!

| | Hi, I am kind of concerned about these products. I recently just found out that hydroquionine products can cause Cancer. I use a cream for my face that contains 2% of hydroquionine at least 1-2 a day. I am very concerned and scared whether it's not a good thing I should my on my skin. Is it true that increase the chances for cancer? Are products containing these ingredients really bad for me skin? Are there good creams aside from these containing specific ingredients that remove melasma? |
