826 Acne
I'm 34 my skin it oily in summer and more dry around eyes, neck, cheeks in winter. Large pores all over but more on chin & nose where i have continuous blackheads- when you push the stuff out it looks like a hole that fills up again-its different than the other blackheads i get everywhere else. My forehead is very oily but i get very few acne bumps there- most of my acne (blackheads, whiteheads and red bumps) are located on my jawline, and area in front of ear, and neck. In the winter my neck gets really irritated/dry by acne products. In my twenties i was put on BC and told I have hormonal acne. 10 years later I'm told I have rosacea even though I'm very light skinned & have to put blush on in the winter just to have color. So now they put me on finacea cream for rosacea and yaz. Birth control helps some but it seems that at any given time i have 4-6 pimples on my face and as soon as the scars remain more pimples show up mostly on neck/jawline. what gives. what skin care lines would you suggest. i was looking at dermalogica and la roche but there are so many lines it's confusing. i don't think i have roscea I think it's still hormonal acne only now that I'm older my skin gets more irritated and drier with acne products. sorry so long-thanks
827 How Will My Medication Affect Tanning?
Hello, I'm 17 and have generally very clear skin. Occasionally I get pimples on my face, but I have never really used any medications or washes; actually, I have more acne on my upper back than my face. A recent hair cut (bangs) has inspired me to pick up a skin care regime to make sure my face stays clear (I've also decided to treat my back and arms as best as I can). So far everything has been working well. I currently use Clean&Clear Oil-Free Daily Pore Cleanser (at night before I go to sleep), Clean&Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer (after I wash my face; also before I go to sleep), Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream (for a mild case of keratosis pilaris on my arms), Clearasil Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream (for the acne on my back) and Scarzone Topical Diminishing Cream (for a few scars from the KP and childhood mishaps). I only apply these on clean skin after washing. I haven't noticed any reactions, but I was wondering if such a sudden (and what I think is a little extensive) implication of such a regime might have any detrimental effects on my skin. By starting all of these new creams and such at the same time, will I 'overload' my skin? I also plan to make a few trips to the tanning bed soon, and I wasn't sure if my using some of these creams would affect my tanning. I know that most products that contain AHAs have different affects when exposed to the sun, but I'm not sure exactly what kind of affects they may have. I am most concerned about the Clearasil Vanishing Cream because it contains 10% Benzoyl peroxide. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Thank you!
828 Glycolic Acid
Hi Megan, You know I have been using the Peter Thomas Roth BHA/AHA acne clearing gel and PTR spot treatment to clear my adult acne. For the past 2 weeks, I have been consistently using it every morning. In addition, I have also been consistently using the PTR Un-Wrinkle Peel pads every night to treat my mild acne as well as rough skin that has developed (which I wonder why). My question is, at my age of 24, is using too many products with glycolic acid going to kill my skin in the long run? If so, what do you recommend I use to stop breaking out and get rid of roughness? I have been using these PTR products for about 2 months now and still see flare ups here and there and rough skin is just now calming down a bit. In addition, I have been using a retinol treatment from Philosophy every night and a moisturizer also from Philosophy every morning, that contains 2% salicylic acid. I am also having a hard time getting rid of the acne scarring (which I believe in time will fade). But for now, my main skin concern is skin roughness and stopping acne. I am hispanic, dark hair, drak eyes, fair/medium skin (tanned now due to Summer). Also, I should add that this problem started about this January - before this I never had any skin problems (always clear!) Please help. Thank you!
829 Acne
I am 15 and have moderate to severe acne and very oily skin. It wouldn't be so bad if zits didn't leave marks behind after they are gone, making it look like I have more acne than I actually do. I have tried lots of products from the drugstore such as biore, neutrogena, clearasil, and oxy, all of which use either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which dry out my skin without reducing oil. They also don't eliminate much acne. I have also used Tess products and, although they didn't dry out my skin, they weren't very effective on my acne either. What products do you recommend for oily, dry, scar-prone skin? Thank you!
830 Skincare Suggestions For Combo/Breakout Prone Skin
I am 27 years old and tend to have combination skin that is prone to breakouts. Before about 2 years ago my skin would only have hormonal breakouts, but during the past 2 years I have been breaking out off and on. This is very frustrating because my skin is now beginning to scar and is not rebounding as quickly as it did when I was younger. I have tried many products designed for acne (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, Proactive - to name a few) and have not had much luck with them. These products tend to dry my face out which makes me even more oily and then I break out even worse. I really want to get my face under control. Recently I went back to using Gly Derm gentle cleanser, which I used to use and remember liking, and my skin has cleared up a little (at least it’s not been getting any worse). I would like to get your opinion on this cleanser and make sure it’s not going to add to my breakouts. Another question I have is in regards to toning and/or exfoliating…are these necessary for a good skin care regimen? If so, please let me know what you would recommend I use for my skin type. Also, do you have a recommendation on a moisturizer? I have been using Cetaphil and it’s a little heavy for my skin, and tends to make my face a little greasy. I think I just need a gentle oil-free moisturizer that won’t make me breakout. And just one last question, do you have a recommendation on an anti-aging cream to use around my eyes? I am beginning to see some fine lines around my eyes and would like to start using an eye cream at night. Thanks!
831 Pevonia Vs Biomedic
Hi Megan, I emailed you over the weekend about the products Penonia vs Biomedic. I had explained my skin care had been Proavtiv for 10+ years and we thought the products might be causing me to have oiler skin. At that time you recommended that I try Pevonia. I came into the store and the girls were very helpful but the headed me toward the Boimedic line. I'm wondering if you feel that the pevonia would be better for me than the Biomedic? I have the Purifying cleanser and the conditioning solution along with the Beyond Hydration. I also have been trying some of the mineral line foundations, not really sure I like them. There kind of hard to blend. You mentioned that If I used Pevonia I would not have to use the mineral make ups(but you did recommend mineral make up). The part I'm concerned with is the breaking out. I thought you mentioned it had more to do with my base. Was that referring to my cleansers etc? And lastly, I mentioned I get really congested around my nose(looks like plugs of oil)and I can actually tweeze them out. What does one do for that...will these new cleansers do the trick? Or is there a extractor one can purchase and remove as needed(the ones you can see on the surface of the skin)? Again, I can't thank you for your time. This website has answered so many of the q's I have. I hope this website will stay around for a long time. It's most helpful to those of us that don't know if were coming or going on skin care! Thank you
832 Congested Skin
I am 29 years old and am having a hard time finding skin care products that work for my skin. I have normal/combo skin but tends to be very acne-prone, I seem to always have some sort of blemish, whitehead, etc. I'm currently using Pevonia for problematic skin but it's not doing much for my skin. I'd be interested in what you might recommend - my main concerns are to get rid of little bumps on my cheek and chin and to help prevent them from coming back as well as helping to even out my skin tone (it tends to look blotchy from past acne scars and some hyperpigmentation). Something that may be anti-aging would be great as well - and if you can recommend a product to help lighten up some brown spots I got after having my 2nd child. I've looked into SkinCeuticals and Mama Lotion - but would prefer a professional opinion before purchasing anything. Also - do you feel using masks help? Sometimes when I use them I tend to break out more. Thanks for your help. Jody
833 Product Recommendation
It will be appreciated if you could suggest products for me and my kids: Me: I'm 40yrs old and although my skin is oily it still gets dry beneath the oily sheen. It is also very sensitive and reacts to a lot of products. I have blemishes, uneven skin tone and scarring. Chi: My daughter is 13yrs with dry skin and suffers from acne on her forehead and sometimes under her lip. She sometimes has scaling around her nose creases. She recently started developing a few blemished on her back Ody: My 16yr old son has normal to oily skin with acne usually on the forehead and sides of his face. Recently, he's started getting blemishes on chin and upper name area, and back. Ari: He has oily skin that used to have acne but now he only gets one or two blemishes which appear to be due to razor bumps. He's currently 17yrs. The kids currently use Paula's Choice products which appears to have helped them more than other products they have tried but has not completely cleared their acne. I currently use Elizabeth Arden products - the Time Capsule products and a few others that I don't react to. I'm hoping to find a simple regime for the kids that will be easy for them to stick to. Your assistance will be appreciated.
834 Acne, Aging & Medications
I am 32 & have had acne all my life, large, red as a teen, now more ingrown, and clogged pores. My skin is sensitive to certain products, such as certain SPF's & Retin-A, they burn my face. I have lots of white heads around my nose, ingrown cyst like acne around my chin & lower cheek area. I get the occasional red, sore & ingrown pimple around my menses cycle. I am noticing that I have dark spots on my face where the scars are starting to form. My hormones are fine, I've had all the necessary blood tests to make sure that it wasn't part of my problem. I do take antidepressants & anti-anxiety medications & I take lots of Omega-3, multi-vitamins, drink tons of water & eat organic foods to try to take care of my insides. I've tried everything from Neutrogena to DDF, & Murad. I've been using Proactiv for a while, it's just not doing the job that it's suppose to do. I purchased the new Clarisonic Skin Care Brush last week, that seems to be getting the makeup off more so than the norm, my face does feel cleaner, but I am not sure if it's going to help w/ acne. I the minerals makeup from BareMinerals. My hair dresser said that BareMinerals made her face a mess. I am wondering if this could be adding to my acne? I've tried Accutane 10 year's ago, it was very drying & I wasn't happy with the monthly bloodwork, which my insurance didn't cover. Is there something that would work for me that I haven't tried & would be helpful? I've been researching Kinerase, Dr. Brant & others but I am unsure of where to go from here. I just want clear skin & be proactive in the anti-aging department as I am in my 30's. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Chantal
835 Fake Tan Soaked Into A Skin Wound
Hi, 2days ago I decided to exfoliate my skin before applying the fake tan 'Fake Bake' the following day. I decided to use the 2nd finest grade of sandpaper that was lying around in my house grade 1200. I was gentle and it didn't hurt immediately my skin felt so smooth. I had heard that removing skin a little deeper helped get rid of hyperpigmentation brown marks left by spots and pimples over the years(I have really pale white type skin, but which tans reasonably easy). Anyway about an hour later my skin became quite red and nippy, I put on plenty of moisturiser. The next day the redness was disappearing in the evening so I decided to apply my Fake Bake fake tan lotion. As this fake tan it tinted brown when you put it on I noticed that it was sinking into patches which the skin must have been removed too deep. I tried to wash it out but it must have absorbed it quicker or deeper. Panicking I frantically started rubbing it with a wet cloth to get it out. The following day(today)my face looks like it has the appearance of carpet burns, there is no bleeding but it is quite raw, the skin has started to feel dry with a thin papery hardness on the surface. I am worried that areas where I can see that the Fake Tan is trapped in there will stay there permanently and new skin will grow over it leaving discolourment. Is this the case, or will the skin grow outwards shedding it eventually, (this fake tan is meant to last up to 10 days) will the body's defences push out a foreign body such as this? How often does skin shed? The Fake Bake is actually a newer version called Fake Bake Gold which contains antioxidants and a blend of vitamins, will this help or will this have been soaked further into the skin within the fake tan? Is there anything I can do to clean it or any cream i can put on it while it is still a relatively new wound to stop scarring/permanent discolouration. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
836 Do I Need A Prescribed Medication?
Hi, lately I have been getting uncontrollable acne all over my face. Not so much white heads, but deep black heads that cause about two or three inches around the what turns out to be a VERY small blackhead. At first when it was not so extreme (just many blackheads here and there) I was using ProActive which seemed to really help, I stopped using it and had no problems for about 3 or 4 months and I just started breaking out with big deep blackheads on my forehead, nose, hairline, chin and some of my cheeks, basically my whole face. I bought some Neutrogena Acne-Fighting foam that seemed to calm it down but my skin soon got back to it's old blackheads everywhere routine. I have been using Murad now for about half a month and while the blackheads on my chin and cheeks have mostly gone away, the ones on my forehead turned from big ones near my hairline, to small and very deep ones all over my forehead. My nose seems to have gotten worse as well. I have blackheads all over it, and I am STILL getting those huge deep ones that make the areas around it swell up like crazy, and because of the swelling and me trying to make it look descent so I don't look like a moron walking out my door everyday with a swollen nose and forehead, I have a lot of scarring. Do you think that I should use prescribed medication since apparently nothing seems to be working? And have you seen this type of breakout before, if so what is it? Thank you for your time, I really hope you get back at me so I can stop living this nightmare and live my life :). -Thank you ALOT, Angelica
