Dermatologist Review of Dr. Brandt

It has been four years since the original Dr. Brandt Skin Care dermatologist review was published and during that time Dr. Brandt’s product line has continued to flourish and grow. Dr. Brandt Skin Care is now truly available worldwide and the product offering has greatly expanded. I’ve elected to update this review of Dr. Brandt Skin Care to highlight some of the promising new arrivals.

Dr Brandt and I crossed paths crossed once in the four years since the 2005 brand review - during the 50th Anniversary of the University of Miami’s Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Surgery. Dr. Brandt attended the meeting and moderated the cosmetic workshop in keeping with his interest in teaching cosmetic dermatology techniques. He was an entertaining moderator and very fashionably dressed. Importantly, he seemed to be relaxed and having fun despite his undoubtedly intensely busy life. Along those lines, rumors from reliable sources suggest that Dr. Brandt is the world’s most prolific injector of Botox and cosmetic dermal fillers.

Clearly Dr. Brandt has been very busy in his many pursuits within the realm of cosmetic dermatology in recent years. The main purpose of this review, however, is to focus on the growth and evolution of Dr. Brandt Skin Care. This skin care line was already well established four years ago and much, thankfully, has stayed the same. The products are still elegant and effective. The packaging innovations continue to reflect an artistic touch. What’s different now is that the range of products and product innovations is much greater allowing for those with diverse skin care desires and requirements to benefit from the line.

Dr. Brandt now has ten distinct product categories ranging from sun protection to dietary supplements. Some of his most popular products are from the ‘dr. brandt house calls’ line (microdermabrasion, crease release, laser a-peel, etc.) and ‘pores no more’ line (pore effect, vacuum cleaner, etc.). Some of his newer lines also contain new and innovative products (and names…).

Dr. Brandt has released a new high protection UV SPF 30 product. The product is a fragrance free very water resistant chemical based screen with broad spectrum UVA coverage and Dr. Brandt’s dry touch technology. The beauty of this product is especially evident for those with darker skins that may suffer from noticeable whitening from zinc or titanium containing products. This sunscreen is very elegant and does in fact have a dry feel despite containing 10% homosalate and 22.5% chemical sunscreen content. This product is the most elegant homosalate containing sunscreen I’ve experienced, presumably due to its innovative formulation. The product comes in a cylindrical gold pump and is presently the sole SPF offering from Dr. Brandt . The container size is 1 oz. so this is clearly a precious product designed for faces only.

Dr. Brandt’s ‘time arrest’ line has added new products and technologies. The eye serum and face fluid work great together. Both contain age reversing platinum technology which is reported to lift, firm, tighten and generally improve skin structure. Although the details of platinum technology are not widely available, the technology is designed to facilitate the skin’s management of collagen synthesis. The eye serum and facial fluid come in flashy rectangular pumps. On the inside is a silver cylinder and surrounding this is an acrylic rectangle – two more pieces of art in the Dr. Brandt collection. The eye serum and face fluid have exceptional cosmetic elegance with a lightweight feel, invigorating tingle on application and a transient refreshing fragrance. The products absorb readily and leave no greasy feel. All in all these two products are fitting additions to the well known ‘time arrest’ line.

Dr. Brandt also has a line designed for skin prone to breakouts, ‘blemishes no more’. The line contains a variety of products that help in the overall management of acne-prone skin alone or adjuvantly with prescription products. One of the greatest challenges for blemish prone skin is finding products that are easy and pleasing to use so they will be used. Dr. Brandt’s products appear to address this issue. One of the new ‘blemishes no more’ products is intensolution. This product comes in a black cylinder with an interesting clear acrylic coated black cap. Intensolution is designed to be wiped on clean skin twice daily to help minimize the formation of blemishes. The product is applied with cotton balls and is pleasant to use and not drying.

Dr Brandt’s packaging has changed some as his brand has grown. This is most noticeable on the product boxes and inserts. The ten different product lines are color coded and thus the boxes now have an accent color in addition to the black and white. Dr. Brandt’s picture and signature now also grace the boxes. Worldwide distribution has required more languages on the boxes and inserts as well as listings for other distribution sites (in this case, France). Despite these changes, the overall, the ‘feel’ of the packaging is the same – somewhat avant-garde and very tasteful.

In summary, Dr. Brandt Skin Care remains a successful and growing skin care care company with many excellent products. The newer additions to the product offering are of the same high quality that helped build the brand’s reputation. A trial of Dr. Brandt Skin Care is reasonable for anyone that is not satisfied with their current skin care.
