Dermatologist Review of Dr. Brandt
anonymous Verified Purchaser Dr. Frederic Brandt’s line of skin care products is a glowing reflection of his personality and passion for cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Brandt skin care combines the best of science and art, just as Dr. Brandt has done professionally throughout his career. I knew Dr. Brandt during my residency in Miami and have written this product review with that perspective.
During my first year of residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery in 1989, Fred Brandt’s unique approach to cosmetic dermatology was readily apparent and remained a valuable resource during my three years at the University of Miami.. Dr. Brandt also graduated from University of Miami’s dermatology program which is, modestly speaking, among the best in the world.
Dr. Brandt’s dedication to cosmetic dermatology was evident during the 80s and 90s in his willingness to forgo his busy private practice periodically to instruct the University of Miami’s dermatology residents. I, for one, was very impressed with his ability to teach cosmetic dermatology and actually nominated him in 1991 for the Dermatology Department’s Lewis Capland, MD outstanding professor award. Lewis Capland was an experienced and admired Clinical Professor at University of Miami and, interestingly enough, was rumored to have been the personal dermatologist of Al Capone during Al’s days on Miami Beach. In recognition of Dr. Capland’s teaching excellence, the yearly Lewis Capland award was initiated in 1991. Although Dr. Brandt was not the recipient of the award during my tenure in Miami, it is often the case that genius takes time to be appreciated. Dr. Brandt’s contributions to the Department of Dermatology at the University of Miami remain considerable and are now certainly more appreciated.
In addition to receiving instruction from Dr. Brandt during resident lectures at the University, I had the occasion to spend a day at Dr. Brandt’s private office in Coral Gables while a resident in 1992. The office had a nice art deco feel and the artwork was impressive with original works of Roy Lichtenstein among others. Dr. Brandt’s artistic flair for cosmetic dermatology and personal interaction in his private office was entertaining and enlightening. If one seeks to define a ‘natural’ for cosmetic dermatology, Frederic Brandt is it. Way back before cosmetic dermatology was ‘hip’ Dr. Brandt had professional glossy brochures on the subject for his patients – one of which I kept for reference for several years after completing residency.
Moving on, this is indeed meant to serve as a review of the Dr. Brandt skin care product line. To fully appreciate a line bearing the name of a famous dermatologist, however, it helps to get a sense of the person behind the products. So, what of the Dr. Brandt skin care line? What kind of product line should one expect from an artistic genius blessed with the best training in dermatology, a stellar career and limitless passion for cosmetic dermatology? The answer here might best be characterized here as quality with a fresh artistic twist.
The Dr. Brandt product line consists of skin care products designed for various purposes including cleansing and hydration, rejuvenation, immediate cosmetic improvement, sun protection and pore refinement.
The Dr. Brandt® Microdermabrasion is simply awesome. It has a light lemon scent and does a beautiful job. Use with caution until getting a feel for how it works. The ‘Lineless’ line makes the skin feel and look soft and silky. Pores No More® Pore Effect is great for combination skin and the Pores No More® line is oil free and really does help control oil during the day. The Time Arrest® V-Zone helps the appearance of sun damaged skin on the chest and neck without causing irritation. The trio of cleansers do a great job of cleansing without leaving the skin feeling dry or taut. Dr. Brandt’s line is quite broad and the final piece of good news is that the high quality extends throughout the line.
Dr. Brandt’s products are elegant and the packaging complements the contents. The packaging is a semi-formal black and white but has a slightly whimsical feel relating to the graphics and brand logo. Quality products such as these in their artistic packaging could be predicted to be expensive and Dr. Brandt’s certainly are. The good news is that Dr. Brandt’s product line performs well and is a pleasure to experience. Dr. Brandt’s skin care product line looks to have a bright future; I would speculate that its popularity will rise significantly as time goes on.
