There are three SkinCeuticals product classes that stand out as exceptional amongst an impressive overall lineup. Vitamin C products, broad spectrum sunblocks, and phyto skin lighteners which are rich in botanicals are areas in which SkinCeuticals truly excels.

SkinCeuticals topical vitamin-C products comprise an innovative skin care line featuring stabilized L-ascorbic acid at a low pH. We all know that vitamin C products like SkinCeuticals are supposed to visibly improve skin clarity, tone and texture and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin with a firmer, smoother, younger looking appearance.

Peer-reviewed clinical studies have shown that in order to be effective, a vitamin-C formulation must contain stable, acid pH, L-ascorbic acid of at least 10% concentration. SkinCeuticals topical vitamin-C products feature the Duke University-patented technology for stable L-ascorbic acid, in concentrations ranging from five (for around the eyes) to fifteen percent, in cosmetically-elegant formulations.

While scientists have long known that sun exposure can have harmful effects on the skin, new research shows that both UVA and UVB play a role in photo-aging and increased skin cancer risk. Many sunscreens don't fully protect skin from UVA rays. Even some sunscreens that claim to offer 'full spectrum' or UVA protection may not offer complete blockage of UVA rays across the UVA spectrum. Most products containing zinc oxide or Parsol 1789 offer fairly decent broad spectrum UVA coverage. The ideal sunscreen must provide complete coverage across the UVA and UVB spectrum. The trick has been to do this in an elegant formulation with minimal potential for facial and conjunctival (eye) irritation.

SkinCeuticals sun protection products contain Z-Cote, a form of microfine, transparent zinc oxide which provides true broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Unlike the pasty white zinc oxide sunscreens of the past, these sunscreens are cosmetically elegant and perfect for use under makeup or other cosmetics. Within the current group of high end physical blocking sunscreens containing either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, SkinCeuticals' are really among the best we've seen. The products are quite elegant, even at SPF 45 and especially at SPF 20. The packaging is awesome and the price is reasonable.

Phyto Corrective Gel is a light, oil-free gel that helps diminish the appearance of brown spots and hyperpigmentation naturally, without chemical skin lighteners. The product is refreshing, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It has an elegant and intriguing green color and is smartly packaged. At DermStore's California Skin Care Clinic we often recommend this product and its sister product, Phyto +, for post laser hair removal care. These products contain arbutin from the uva-ursi plant and thymol from the thyme plant which help prevent appearance of new brown spots and post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation which can occur after laser hair removal. Phyto + contains kojic acid as well as arbutin and thymol. These products are truly unique and have been exceptionally well received in our store and clinics.
