Gold Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector by
Gabriel, I read your comment regarding the shimmering skin perfector from Becca. You mentioned that the Gold is universally flattering and that you could use it on any woman in your chair. I am fairly light complected and received this product, it seems like it might be dark for my complection. Question is do you use that color on fair skinned clients and if so what is your application tip? I don't want it to be choppy around my neck and forehead area or run when I sweat and look like a zebra, help! ;) 2011-03-08 |

hair and face questions by
Hi Gabriel, I was wondering do you have a product recommendation for 2 problems I am having. I seem to break out with every moisturizer that I have t ried. And I have a very dry scalp. My hair is healthy, but not my scalp. Help if you can. Thanks, Kenya 2010-03-25 Comments
Hair and Face Advice by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
I'm making it simple on you by suggesting a kit. Try Dermalogica Skin Kit for Normal/Oily.
Most women make the same 2 common mistakes...
1. They don't use products long enough for their skin to adjust. To get optimum results from any product, it really should be used for at least 30 consecutive days. The cell turnover for young adults is 30 days, as we get older our cell turnover slows to about 45 days. When using a new product (and especially when it's a good one) often times our skin gets worse before it gets better, aka “purging.”
2. They don't realize the important relationship between Cleanser and Moisturizer. Many times, the moisturizer is not the problem. It may look like the problem, but if the cleanser is taking away too much good oil... your skin will naturally produce more oil to compensate for what’s lost and therefore cause breakouts.
For that reason, I recommended a kit that has the cleanser and moisturizer already paired for you and then some. Start with just the cleanser and moisturizer and leave the rest of the other products for use later after your skin has adjusted to the new line.
For your dry scalp issues I recommend using an oil like Suki Hair/Scalp Conditioning Oil. I oil scalp treatments best because they are thin enough to get through the hair and actually onto the scalp. This particular oil is heavy duty as it's formulated for eczema and dermatitis. All of Suki's products are good for you.
Remember that anything you use for scalp will also benefit your hair. You don't have a hair issue but maybe with this process your hair will look even better than it already did.
Also- these are only recommendations. Know the products you put on your skin, I can easily recommend items, but having you in my chair and actually “prescribing” product is a different thing. Hope my advice works for you!

Photo-op by Jenna
I see friends and family (and ok, sometimes myself) taking pictures on digital cameras and no matter what their face can look shades whiter as the result. What's a way to avoid this photo catastrophe? 2010-01-04 Comments
Photo-Fix by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
Now you my dear are in quite a conundrum! There's two things that are potentially going on...
1a. The flash is too much so it's washing out the face.
1b. The flash is capturing dewiness on the face and bouncing it back making your face look too light.
2. The camera is too close for comfort.
I'm sure you're not going to check the flash on every camera before you take a photo so you can either make sure you're super matte before it's snapped OR have the picture taker stand a little further back.
You can also do your makeup darker and heavier but that might look a bit goofy when you're not taking pics.

Shine On by Lauren
Everytime I use a shine enhancer on my hair I feel like it ends up look a tad TOO shiny (aka: greasy). Any tips? Help! 2010-01-04 Comments
Shining Beauty by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
I wonder if you're doing the common mistake of using too much product?
The easiest way to use a shine enhancer is to get a spray! And preferably a continuous spray like Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Starlet Shine Spray.
Hold the bottle as far away from your hair as you can and spray from the ends up. Use just a small amount. You won't see the result right away as the spray will need to coat the strands which could take maybe a good minute. Make sure you start at the ends and travel up the strands avoiding the 2-4 inches closest to the root to avoid the "greasy" look.
That should help you with that problem. If you are dead-set on using a cream or oil, follow the same procedure and avoid your roots.

Tips on lipsticks for thin lips? by Jac
I have super-thin lips. So, I usually opt for glosses instead of lipsticks. However, I would love to wear lipsticks, especially red, on occasion. Is there a way or a lipstick that won't accentuate my thin lips? 2009-12-31 Comments
Lipstick Tricks by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
Lips are a tricky thing since there is a big difference between the lip skin and your face skin. Overdrawing too much makes you look like you're drawing your lips on your face because technically you are.
You are smart to stick to glosses, but you CAN wear a red lipstick.
Stick to the brightest red you can stand. The brighter the color the more it will pop and not have people staring at your thin lip.
Apply the lipstick first then take a red pencil that matches the lip color as much as possible and line your lip on the outermost rim of your natural lip line. There's a little ridge just before you start drawing on your face... stay at the far edge of that.
Make sure you connect the pencil at the corners or your mouth—especially if your lips are thin—you want to get as much from that pout as possible.

Brow Booboo by heyHey
One of my eyebrows looks wonky (I overplucked at the arch) -- what should I do to make it look better? 2009-12-30 Comments
Arched Glory by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
Eyebrows are my specialty! I always have girls come to see me after they over pluck.
First, put down the tweezers!!!
Going forward, make sure you don't tweeze in a rush. Second, keep stepping away from the mirror while you're tweezing so you can see the BIGGER picture. It's so easy to keep tweezing when you have your nose pressed against the mirror.
Now that the damage has been done... And while you wait for that hole to grow back you are going to have to fill it in.
If the hole is small you can use an eyeshadow that matches your brow color and use a stiff angled brush to fill in that space.
If the hole is bigger you can use a brow pencil that matches your brow color to fill in the hole and then follow with that eye shadow to make it look more natural.
It shouldn't take more than 3 months to have your brows back to their arched glory.

Makeup Trends for 2010 by Nicole
Hi Gabriel,
What makeup trends are coming for 2010? 2009-12-30 Comments
Beauty Report by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
The trends are really pretty this year:
1. LIP COLOR is big this year. The 2 hottest colors are Red (as usual) and Coral. I love corals because they make absolutely everyone look gorgeous.
2. SKIN is staying really fresh, clean and dewy. Not a lot of powder, especially on the cheeks.
The next 2 trends came directly from NYC Fashion Week shows that I was part of...
3. EYES are still smoky but with metallics. We did metallic grays, browns and blues.
4. MASCARA is huge for 2010. We did a super loaded lash to make it look clumpy and really saturated with black, but there were a lot of shows that went for length.
So whether you go for lash thickness or length- just got for it!

Volumized Hair by Ash
What is the best way to volumize your hair? 2009-12-30 Comments
Bigger is Better by Gabriel Almodovar - Redpoint Representative
The best way to volumize your hair is to layer product.
Ideally, you would start with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner.
Outside of the shower you can layer a root lifting product like Jonathan Create Root Volume while hair is still wet. After hair is blow-dried, up at the root you can finish it off with hair powder/dry shampoo like Naturia Dry Shampoo by Rene Furterer.
