The Cleansing Ritual Beauty Editors and Celebs Swear By

BY Judit Galambosi · July 24, 2015

Your skin tends to change with the weather, especially if you live in an area where you have long, cold winters and hot, humid summers (such as New York and Chicago). It is important to transition into a new seasonally appropriate skin care ritual in order to keep your complexion balanced and still maintain that fresh glow as the temperatures start to rise. Here, we’ll show you a few easy steps—and the only 3 products you need—to do just that.

how to get the laszlo glow

Step 1: Cleanse & Exfoliate

For summer, the most important thing you can do for your skin is as simple as washing your face in the morning and at night—but not just with any cleanser. To achieve the legendary “Laszlo” glow, you’ll need Erno Laszlo’s iconic cleansing duo: the Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil and Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar.

The Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil, which boasts 12 botanical and fatty-acid-rich oils like avocado, apricot and sunflower, dissolves trapped oil, dirt and impurities deep within the pores. When used with a cleansing bar, the oil will create a foamy lather to maximize the cleansing process and keep the skin hydrated and supple. Meanwhile, the Deep Cleansing Bar draws out toxins and other pollutants, unclogging the pores, while fine grains within the mud slough away dead skin cells, dirt particles and impurities on skin’s surface, revealing the radiance beneath.

The Laszlo Way: Fill your sink basin with warm water. Gently massage the cleansing oil on your dry face with dry hands. Dip the cleansing bar into the basin and gently rub the wet bar over your face, directly on top of the oil.

Step 2: Do the 30-Splash Rinsing Technique

To reveal your brightest skin, we recommend doing the Erno Laszlo’s famous “splashing technique.” A-listers and beauty editors swear by this technique to keep their skin youthful and radiant because it encourages collagen and elastin production and flushes out damaging toxins.

Once you’ve exfoliated your skin with the cleansing bar, follow with 20 splashes of the “treatment broth” (soapy water) made in your basin. Then, do 10 additional splashes of clean water to rinse, plump and revitalize the skin.

Step 3: Finish With Light Controlling Lotion

To finish, sweep the Light Controlling Lotion over your face with a cotton ball to tighten pores and control shine. This refreshing toner helps to balance the skin and combat bacteria on the skin’s surface. If you tend to have breakouts more in the summertime, this is the perfect product to keep your complexion clear and blemish-free.

Bonus Step: If you hate to wear makeup in the summer and just want to let your natural beauty show, use Erno Laszlo’s  Shake-It Tinted Treatment. It provides light but buildable mattifying coverage to control shine and excess oil. It’s a great transitional product because the warmer it gets, the more likely you are to see oil on your skin. This can be worn alone or under foundation to give you a natural finish and seal in moisture for a perfect flawless finish that doesn’t feel heavy.

Once a week, complement your skin care routine with Erno Laszlo’s Hyrda Therapy Skin Vitality Mask, a two-step mask that leaves your skin instantly glowing. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use this face mask.
