We were lucky enough to have him join us for a live Q&A earlier this week where he shared some great skin care advice and expert tips. See his answers below!
Q. I am in my early thirties and want to know types of products and practices to follow to age well. What should I be doing to protect and maintain my skin?
A. I know it sounds so basic, but daily use of broad spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater is the foundatoin for healthy, younger-looking skin. Add a leave-on AHA or BHA exfolian, a serum packed with antioxidants and repairing ingredients, and a moisturizer suited for your skin type as well as a gentle, non-soap cleanser and you’ll be doing a great job protecting and maintaining your skin!
Q. Is there a product you can recommend to spot treat hyperpigmentation?
A. Yes, the Paula’s Choice Resist Vitamin C Spot Treatment with 25% vitamin C is remarkable for this. But be sure you’re protecting your skin daily with a broad spectrum sunscreen. ANY skin-lightening product can only be as good as the sunscreen you’re using (not to harp, but DAILY) to prevent further darkening of the spot.
Q. Will you explain the main differences between the different Paula’s Choice BHAs? In particular, in what ways do the various 2% liquid BHA options differ?
A. It’s all about strength and texture followed by personal preference. If your breakouts and clogged pores are mild, go for a 1% BHA concentration, and choose whether you prefer a lotoin or gel texture, with gels being preferred for oily skin. If your breakouts and clogging are moderate and/or you’re seeing signs of aging/unven skin tone, go for a 2% BHA product and select texture (lotion, gel, or liquid) based on your skin type and personal preferences. The 2% BHA Liquid and the Extra Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution in the PC Clear line stand out due to both containing a penetration-enhancing ingredient that makes the salicylic acid a bit more potent.
