Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel
If you’ve watched a Hollywood awards show in the past decade, you’ve surely seen Adir Abergel’s work. The hairstylist has created iconic red carpet looks for a who’s-who of big screen talent: Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner, to name a few. He’s also the creative director of VIRTUE®, the damage-healing hair care line our experts can’t stop buzzing about. We recently hit up Abergel between awards-season engagements to find out his best hair tips, plus the go-to products he keeps in his kit and on his shelves.

On his favorite career highlights so far:

It’s really all about the person sitting in my chair and being able to help build their confidence and explore their individuality—that’s really the highlight of every day. That said, throughout my career there have been many memorable red carpet moments such as styling Sandra Bullock into a sleek straight style the night she won an Oscar, and my recent work with Charlize Theron who has been an incredible collaborator. For the 2019 Oscars, I cut Charlize’s hair into a bob and took her color to a rich brunette. For this past SAG Awards, I bleached her pixie cut, leaving the roots a little longer, and accessorized her part with a Tiffany diamond bracelet.

His advice for creating a DIY blowout that looks like a pro did it:

I have a few easy tricks that I share with my mother and all of my friends. Focus on the top section of your hair and leave the underneath section a little bit more natural. You will have that undone textured look. Another great tip is to use the cool air setting on a hair dryer and rough dry hair until it’s about 80 percent dry. Then create a beautiful finish by using a round brush with heat to finish drying the hair. For a finishing touch, you can use a flat iron to bend the ends of the hair under and smooth on a few drops of Healing Oil for a glamorous shine.
