- Question: OK, i recently figured out I'm allergic to anything with SPF. Anything with it in it , lotions, foundations, moisturizers make me break out to varying degrees after i wear it (more SPF the worse the break out)..none have the PABA (sp?) the one sunblock i was using daily was Thomas Roth oil free for the face SPF 30 and it made be break out so badly I have scars on my face now. so it isn't like i was using a poor brand on my skin, even my estee lauder foundation with SPF 15 made me break out slightly! I want to protect my skin though from damaging effects on a daily basis, I'm not a sun worshiper the bronze i have is from bronzer lotions, but I want to be able to enjoy the outdoors and be able to wear something daily and know I'm doing something to help my skin from cancer and sun damage. I'm female, Caucasian and 23 years of age. (starting good habits young is essential yes? *smiles*) Please help i have no idea how to handle this and i want to help my skin be happy and healthy. Bonnie PS I just need something for the face my body seems to be ok with regular sunblock and not that sensitive unless I put it across my shoulders, neck or cleavage.
It’s definitely going to be difficult for you to protect yourself with this allergy. My best recommendation is to seek an appointment with a physician who specializes in allergies and allergic reactions. It may be possible that you are simply allergic to certain SPF ingredients and not all, but to rule those certain ones out you’ll have to have some testing done. I’d be curious to see if you were only allergic to chemical sunscreens and not physical sunscreens. If you are willing to experiment I’d recommend trying Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush (SPF 30) – All Clear.
Additionally, your other options are to avoid the sun as much as possible and if you are going to be in the sun, wear a hat and enough clothing to protect your body.
Best skin care wishes.
