Q Hi Doctor, I took the drug Accutane when I was 14, going on 15, for about 8 months at a dose of 1mg/kg to treat my severe acne. I have recently become aware that accutane could stunt the growth of growing teenager by prematurely fusing the growth plates. Is this true? Is this a common side effect? I would really appreciate a reply as soon as possible as I am extremely concerned about this. Please reply back to pmathur02@hotmail.com. Thank you,
A

Accutane is not recommended for those that have not completed their skeletal growth because it is still unknown whether or not Accutane can reduce bone healing or stunt one's growth.
