Q I am currently using Differin and Acanya gel on my face to treat some mild acne. I recently read that people on these medicines should not get waxed. I only use the medications on my face, so would it be ok to get a bikini wax?
A

The reason that it is suggested to avoid waxing while using Differin is because the active ingredient, vitamin A, is absorbed into the skin, or considered to be systemic, thus it can affect the entire body. It's unlikely though that you would have to avoid a bikini wax, if you are only using this product in the facial region. I would suggest you put in a call to the spa/salon that you wish to have the wax procedure done at, ask them to do a patch test of wax in the bikini area prior to your actual appointment (this should take a minute or two) and see how your skin responds to the treatment. You should be fine. I have had many clients that use a topical vitamin A that still receive such wax treatments, you'll likely just have to sign a waiver to relieve responsibility in the case that there was a negative reaction. Best skin care wishes.
