Despite its rather technical sounding name, panthenol is a provitamin of B5 that is commonly blended into hydrating hair and skin care products. Its most celebrated for its ability to thicken tresses while moisturizing and speeding up growth, leaving hair silky and shiny. Its particularly adept at reducing tangles, since it makes hair so glossy that it simply won't hold a knot. Water-soluble panthenol is easily washed out and therefore does not leave a waxy buildup. Once panthenol is applied to your skin, it converts to pantothenic acid which works as a humectant, by infusing water in the cells, retaining moisture deep within the skin's tissues.
Clinical research has shown, that not only is this acid extremely moisturizing, but when regularly used over a period of time, it takes on an anti-inflammatory role, relieving systemic itching while helping to soothe dry, irritated skin. Dermstore's selection of products that feature panthenol include hair treatments, shampoos, conditioners, mascaras, facial moisturizers, serums and body lotions. The best way to find the right solution for your skin and hair type is to browse by your specific concerns, paying attention to ingredient preferences you may have, such as paraben-free, organic or vegan. Panthenol is often blended with other nourishing ingredients, such as antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and aloe vera.
