Formulated for skin tolerant to retinol treatments, it stimulates collagen production and enhances faster cell renewal to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Algae extract ensures skin is soft, hydrated and protected against free-radical damage.

Apply a single pump to face in the evening. If you have never used a retinol product before, begin by limiting use to twice a week, gradually increasing frequency to every other night, and then advancing to each evening or as tolerated. Mild redness, peeling and irritation is expected when using this product. Use daily sun protection with SPF 20 or higher during use of this product. Avoid getting in eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.
CAUTION: Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating or planning to become pregnant.

I bought this product after my dermatologist recommended it, and it has been working great. For me, it does feel a bit thick though, so I find that I end up using this alone at night without any moisturizer on top. I have oily skin and in the mornings it doesn't feel like my skin is dried out. My skin feels and looks smoother and even toned. I was a bit careful working this in to my daily routine by starting off once every three days and eventually to every night, but I think it's so gentle that it wouldn't be too much for an experienced retinol user. It's much gentler than my retin-a micro which I could barely tolerate once a week.

I am seeing results, but this is strong.
I decided to try this after my PTR retinol fushion supply was dwindling. I saw some line fading with PTR, but not as much I hoped. I feel like PTR is good maintenance/prevention for more youthful skin. I am 40 y/o with some sun damage, so I wanted to up the ante. I figured that since I had no issues with PTR retinol that I could start at the .5 strength. I was wrong! This stuff is strong! The good news is that I can see it working. Some of the fine lines around my eyes are starting to fade a bit. But, I am having true retinol side effects-red blotchy skin, some discoloration patches, peeling, itching, dryness. It's manageable, but it is clear that this retinol is strong. I am so happy with the results, however, I have ordered the .25 and plan on building up my strength, because really, I am seeing results. Skin is tighter and smoother.

Skin Medica 0.5 Retinol
A very potent retinol cream. I have been using a prescription retinol cream for over a year and it was insane how expensive it was and I love this skin care line and have had very good experiences with several other products by Skin Medica. I tried this for half of what my prescription costs and it is just as good. Strong though so a little goes a long way. It might even be a bit too strong so my skin is going to have to build a slow tolerance to it. Worth the money.

potentially drying unless already accustomed
I've recently embarked on a SkinMedica regimen of the cleanser, Lytera, and Retinol Complex 0.5 in an attempt to lighten MILD hyperpigmentation and to address incipient fine lines and wrinkles (age 46). Although I'd used supposedly retinol-containing serums in the past (Image, PCA Skin), it's apparent that this Retinol Complex has a greater percentage of active retinol in it (or perhaps it's just of better quality). As such, beware that unless your skin is accustomed to it, it can be quite drying. I started every other night, which proved too drying (I started lightly peeling). I'm now at every 3rd night, which seems fine. So far, after only 3 weeks, I'm liking the smoothness and overall tone of my skin.
