SkinMedica's Age Defense Retinol Complex 0.5 enhances the skin's texture to promote a brighter, more youthful complexion. Formulated for skin tolerant to retinol treatments, it stimulates collagen production and enhances faster cell renewal to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Algae extract ensures skin is soft, hydrated and protected against free-radical damage.

Apply a single pump to face in the evening. If you have never used a retinol product before, begin by limiting use to twice a week, gradually increasing frequency to every other night, and then advancing to each evening or as tolerated. Mild redness, peeling and irritation is expected when using this product. Use daily sun protection with SPF 20 or higher during use of this product. Avoid getting in eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.
CAUTION: Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating or planning to become pregnant.

Love!
I started this after prepping my skin with the 0.25. I had no irritating, just some light peeling in the first week (not uncomfortable or painful). Within weeks I saw my freckles/ dark spots lighten, and the overall completion even out. I have young skin so I am using this as age defense, and will definitely keep using it! Love that it has a pump rather than the tube application of other formulas.

Good retinol
I can only use once or twice a week or I start peeling. I used .25 retinol before, so I need to use this & build up frequency. It is a good product but my skin I a little sensitive.

Found my retinol match first try
I have sensitive skin and anticipated I would not tolerate retinol introduction well (first used 6 months ago at 41 yo). My skin tolerated daily use of 0.25 strength in this product after just a week of every other day use. I switched to 0.5 strength daily after 3 months of using 0.25 strength w no issues. No peeling or significant irritation w either dose. Very satisfied. I found a compatible retinol for my skin on first try! See no reason to change product and will increase to 1.0 soon.

This is a keeper!

My favorite retinol product!
I've used this retinol for over a year now (just a couple times per week due to sensitive skin issues in general) and it works so well. My skin is always soft and smooth after applying this at night. I always do a layer of moisturizer first to avoid irritation.

Nothing happens
Emptied the SkinMedica .25 bottle with very good results and no purging, no peeling, and felt prepped to start the .50 bottle. The .50 was yellowish in color, similar texture to the .25, no discernable odor. However, the .50 did absolutely nothing for my skin over four months of use, using it 3-4x/week. The improvement that my skin had made with the .25 (decreased in forehead lines, lines around eyes, forehead bumpiness) actually diminished over time and I realised that the .50 wasn't doing anything to maintain or even improve upon those results. I stopped the .50 on my face and switched back to the .25 and within a week of using the .25 again, I could see improvements in my skin. My forehead had that little bit of plumped-up glow again. I'm using up the rest of the .50 bottle on my chest and it's not making any difference to the skin there. No idea why the .50 was a dud for me.

Broke me out in a horrendously itchy rash
At first I thought I was just using it too often, so I scaled back from twice weekly to once weekly. Rash. Intensely itchy maculopapular rash covering my face, neck, around my eyes, even my ears, neck, chest. I use several items from Dermstore for my regimen other than this retinol, so I phased everything out and then used one at a time to make sure I knew what the problem was. I waited about 2 weeks to try the retinol again, and sure enough, the next day, rash broke out and was even worse than the last time. I know retinol causes skin peeling, but this is an allergic reaction. Dang.
