Great stable staple
I've been using Elta MD UV Clear Sunscreen for years... Initially recommended by my dermatologist, I have found it to be a great stable staple to my skincare routine. It goes on smoothly, and once applied, does not leave any sticky residue or smell. If anything, I find it adds a slight brightness to my complexion, which is an added bonus. It has a slight fragrance at first, but it doesn't last. Good for any climate and season. (This product has served me well living on both coasts.) Key notes: -Fragrance goes away right away. -Texture is smooth, not sticky and leaves no white color behind like sunblocks tend to do. It's just the right consistency: not too thick but not liquidy so that it spills. -Packaging is easy to use: pump applicator prevents bottle leaking or pouring too much out.

The title says it all. This sunscreen has really high coverage and is very cosmetically elegant. On top of that, it makes my sensitive skin super soft and doesn't cause break outs! What more could you ask for? Maybe a slightly smaller price tag.

Painful...
I tried this sunscreen twice - once last year, and again in the past two weeks. It's so loved and has such a cult following I wanted it to work so badly. I figured it was something I was doing, maybe exfoliating too much? This time around I stopped exfoliating (no acids whatsoever) since this product contains lactic acid. Same reaction as last year. It stings a little bit when I apply it as my last step in the morning. It isn't unbearable initially, just noticeable. The stinging fades away after 15-30 minutes, until later in the day when I wash my face before bed and my skin feels tender. Then one day when I was particularly active and started to perspire my face felt like it was on fire. My entire face turned bright red so I immediately washed it off. My face remained red that entire night. Before I went to bed I also noticed tiny little bumps all over my face. Not acne, more like contact dermatitis or a heat rash. It had to be some kind of allergic reaction both times. It just doesn't make sense to me because every single ingredient is an ingredient I use in my skincare routine with no problem. I don't have sensitive skin. One other thing is that it makes my forehead and nose look real shiny. Not like oily shiny, but like a mirror. I guess I'm an outlier. Happy ending - I tried the sport version and it works like a charm! It's also waterproof so it lasts all day and stays put until I wash it off. Even better, it doesn't run or burn my eyes during workouts! Niacinamide is pretty agreeable with everyone, so I'm guessing it was the lactic acid that was bothering my skin so badly even though I use it in other products without a problem. If this doesn't work for you, try the sport version! It won't clog your pores and it lasts all day!
