Disappointing

2 stars out of a maximum of 5

I was excited to use Discoloration Defense as I've used SkinCeuticals Phyto and Phyto+ previously with success so I thought this would work for my acne scars as well. I used this product consistently for more than a month and saw little to no difference in the color of my acne scars. This serum did not work for my skin at all which is surprising because normally I use Phyto+ and see a difference almost immediately. This new product was more expensive and not as effective plus due to the packaging in a white bottle that is not transparent it was hard to determine if I was getting low on the product. The bottle had measuring lines on the outside of it which is odd because you can't see through it to determine how much serum is in the bottle. I would not recommend this to others and will not purchase again. It was too expensive and doesn't work.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY

1 stars out of a maximum of 5

I TRIED THIS PRODUCT FOR 3 WEEKS AND I SAW NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL IN MY SKIN. IT WAS SUPER EXPENSIVE AND DID NOT WORK. I HAVE USED OTHER LINES THAT CLAIM TO HAVE THE SAME AFFECTS AND THEY HAVE WORKED BETTER FOR A LOT LESS MONEY. I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW THIS PRODUCT CAME OUT AND FOR NOTHING

A little disappointed..

I had high hopes for this serum on my melasma, as the ingredient list is amazing. But after using for a few weeks, my melasma is slowly getting darker. This serum would probably work great for regular hyper-pigmentation and I would recommend it for that purpose, just not for melasma. I know melasma is very hard to treat, but I was hoping it would at least lighten it for me, not make it darker...

Discoloration Defense

Update to my previous review. I had been using this product for about 8 weeks and decided not to continue with it. I had been experiencing some itching and bumps under the skin, primarily on my chest, and when I stopped using it for a few days, the itchiness stopped and the bumps disappeared. Perhaps with the retinol, the CE Ferulic, the HA Intensifier and the squalane, my skin just didn't need this Discoloration Defense as well and decided to let me know that enough is enough! I also found it to be quite sticky on my skin and I don't think it was really making that much difference to the brown spots. I'm hoping that with continued use of the retinol and CE Ferulic, they will fade more over time.

Discoloration Defense

In a week there was a difference in the overall facial appearance. People have commented on my skin. I am still waiting for the larger age spots to fad more, but I can tell it is working on them too.

It did not do as I had hoped...

I was so excited when SkinCeuticals came out with this serum.. The ingredient list is amazing and I did a lot of research that backed up their ingredient list. I have melasma on my cheeks, forehead, upper lip and bridge of nose. I used this serum on just the dark spots for several weeks, at twice a day. I thought they seemed to get lighter at first, but then I began to notice that they were actually becoming darker!! I stopped using this serum at that moment and as scared to use it again. It seems as though everything I use on my melasma makes it worse, except for Vitamin C. I have used lactic acid, glycolic acid, retin-a, licorice root extract, niacinamide, kojic acid, mulberry extract, alpha arbutin and even bearberry leaf ectract. The only thing that seems to be lightening it is azelaic acid. So, instead of stressing my skin out, I'm focusing on thickening my outer most layer of the skin, as there is a lot of research that found that people who suffer from melasma have a thin stratum corneum , which is the outer most layer of of the skin. So, I moisturize, moisturize and moisturize. Then I use the azelaic acid once a day too, sometimes every other day. No more ingredients that seem to exfoliate the skin away and weaken the stratum corneum... Overall, this serum has amazing ingredients and would probably work for sun damage or dark spots caused by acne, but if your suffering from melasma, I cannot recommend.

Helps with acne discoloration

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Super helpful for post-acne dark marks! I mine fade at a much quicker rate (both the red marks and the darker/brown ones) and it actually seems to prevent them from coming altogether when I use this during a breakout. I'm only 4 weeks in and I am super excited to see more progress with continued use. I only use once a day, over the CE Ferulic in the AM.

I know Kojic acid is popular among Asian skincare brands for summer helper pigmentation!

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Last summer I walked into an ethnic grocery store because I was grocery shopping for the family. My family members asked me to find a soap with Kojic acid in it. I know that most Asian supermarkets like Hmart, grand mart, lotte, and hanaro foods supermarkets carry skincare with Asian ingredients like Ginseng, Green tea, ginger oil, ginko, and Kojic Acid etc. I found a lot of expensive skincare made in South Korea. In my opinion, Skinceuticals is the best brand because it is created by dermatologists, it's natural and good for sensitive skin. I see immediate results after using this product.

Some improvement so far

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

I've been using this product for a full month now, and while I was skeptical at first about its effectiveness, I think I'm starting to see some results. I don't think that it's done much for existing hyper pigmentation, but I do see that newer discoloration from recent hormonal breakouts have faded much quicker than normal. So it's doing something to prevent new discoloration, but I'm yet to see any of the old ones diminish or fade. I'll have to give it more time.
